Non-cash payment is a form of using electronic payment methods applying digital technology or indirect payment through credit institutions instead of using cash as the traditional way. With many forms such as Internet banking, Mobile banking, credit cards, bank cards and the most popular form is online payment via applications using QR codes.
Nowadays, not only in supermarkets and shopping malls but also in traditional markets, clinics, pharmacies, restaurants, cafes, and large and small grocery stores, there are QR codes for customers to use when making payments.
Le Thi Giang, a student at a local university, said that her family deposited her living expenses into her account, so all expenses such as food, services, entertainment, etc. were paid via bank transfer. “For students, bank transfer is the most convenient, this method is both quick and convenient, especially there is no worry of losing money when holding cash. This method is modern and suitable for today's life,” Giang shared.
To adapt to the trend of cashless consumption, most shops and businesses have QR codes for customers' convenience. According to shop owners, the fact that most customers prefer this type of fast payment brings many benefits such as not having to prepare too much cash, change, reducing transaction time between staff and customers, and avoiding overload at the checkout counter.
Ms. Le Thi Lanh, owner of a Hue beef noodle shop on Cach Mang Thang 8 Street, said: “More than 80% of young customers who come to the shop choose to pay quickly via QR codes. Not only that, many small value transactions are made by customers by scanning the code because sometimes they do not like to carry cash and this type of payment is very convenient and fast for them. With QR codes, instead of entering the bank name and account number as before, the information is automatically filled in. In addition, when young people often use shipping services, this payment method helps save a lot of time.”
Han Market (Hai Chau Ward) is a place that attracts a large number of domestic and foreign tourists to visit and shop; during peak tourist season, the market welcomes nearly 10,000 visitors per day. Walking along the sales areas, it is easy to see QR codes on iron pillars, walls or among the piles of goods for sellers to receive payments from tourists.
Not only in large tourist markets, the trend of cashless payment is also increasingly present in traditional markets located in rural and mountainous areas. Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Anh, who sells shoes at Tuy Loan market (Hoa Vang commune) said that since implementing the "Market 4.0" model, many people and students when coming to buy goods at the shop have used QR codes instead of cash. These changes have helped her and other small traders greatly improve business efficiency.
The diverse development of payment methods is not only among young people but also among middle-aged people, even the elderly. According to Mr. Tran Trung Nghia (Dai Loc commune), in the past 3 years, he rarely carries cash. He shared: “Before, I was afraid to change because I thought that if I was not proficient, I would easily have risks and lose money when using an account. At the same time, the habit of touching and seeing the money with my own hands to feel secure makes many people not dare to use their accounts to exchange and buy and sell. In the countryside today, whether young or old, everyone has a smartphone. Therefore, using this payment method is very convenient, no need to worry about losing money, no need to worry about dropping it while moving”.
However, to ensure safety when making non-cash payments, users should be careful not to disclose personal information and absolutely not provide passwords to others. In addition, be wary of QR codes posted or shared in public places or sent via social networks; identify and carefully check the account information of the QR code provider; carefully review the content of the website that the QR code leads to to avoid property appropriation.
