On the morning of July 3, the football world was shocked by the news that Diogo Jota and his brother (midfielder Andre Silva of Penefiel Club) passed away in a terrible traffic accident in Zamora, Sanabria (Spain).

The car carrying the two brothers had a flat tire while speeding on the highway, then lost control, went off the road and burst into flames. Diogo Jota and Andre Silva both died in the accident because they could not escape the car in time. Diogo Jota is loved by many colleagues and fans for his professionalism and dedication. He has played for Liverpool since 2020 after moving from Wolverhampton Wanderers. After 5 seasons, Diego Jota has made 182 appearances for the Merseyside team, scoring 65 goals and providing 26 assists.
Diogo Jota won the Premier League (2024 - 2025), the League Cup and the FA Cup (2021 - 2022) with Liverpool.
Former Portugal coach Fernando Santos said: "It's hard to talk about Diogo Jota at the moment. It doesn't matter anymore. He first played with me when he was 22. Even though he played with the best player in the world, Diogo Jota always had his own place."

"Not only was Diogo Jota a great player, with almost 50 caps for his country, but he was also an extraordinary person, respected by all his teammates and opponents. He was a person who spread joy and was a shining example in his own community. The loss of Diogo and Andre Silva is an irreparable loss for Portuguese football and we will do everything we can to honor their legacy every day."
Former centre-back Pepe expressed his condolences to his two Portuguese colleagues: "I was very sad to hear that Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva passed away. It is a huge loss.
In this time of profound grief, I offer my sincerest condolences to their families, friends and all who loved them. May they rest in peace."
