Gia Dinh Ward was formed after merging wards: 1, 2, 7, 17 of Binh Thanh District. Previously, Binh Thanh District belonged to Gia Dinh province and after many changes in administrative boundaries, the name Gia Dinh disappeared from the map. After several decades, now the name Gia Dinh has returned, attached to people's lives again. What is special about the cuisine in Gia Dinh Ward?
What is there on the popular culinary street Van Kiep?
Van Kiep Street is the most densely populated and vibrant area in Ho Chi Minh City. With the advantage of being located near major roads such as Phan Xich Long, Phan Dang Luu, etc., this area has long been a culinary destination for locals, young people and tourists from near and far.

At around 5pm, Van Kiep Street begins its "golden hour". People bustle back and forth amidst the bright lights from the shops on both sides of the street. The aromas wafting from bowls of noodle soup, grilled pork vermicelli, beef vermicelli, crab soup, dumplings, and hot fish hotpot make anyone passing by turn around and look, making it difficult to move forward.
What makes this short street famous is the variety of dishes and affordable prices. For only 30,000 - 40,000 VND, diners can still eat their fill with a bowl of crab noodle soup or grilled pork vermicelli. This is also one of the reasons why Van Kiep Street attracts diners - delicious food, fresh food, not afraid of the price.

Ms. Ngan (33 years old), owner of a crab noodle shop on Van Kiep Street, said that her mother has been selling crab noodle soup and vermicelli soup for more than ten years in this area. Born and raised here, she has witnessed the obvious change of the street as it gradually becomes a paradise for affordable food.
"Thanks to the support of many customers, I sell until late at night. Before, I helped my mother sell, but later I wanted to try my hand so I opened a noodle shop right next door. Not only in the evening, at noon there are also many customers, sometimes I don't have time to rest. I think Van Kiep street attracts many customers because of the affordable prices, there are few food courts in Ho Chi Minh City with prices as cheap as here", Ms. Ngan shared.

Ms. Tuong Vi (57 years old), owner of a grilled pork noodle shop on Van Kiep Street, said that each portion costs from 25,000 to 35,000 VND. In addition to grilled pork, each portion of noodles also has grilled spring rolls. She sells from the evening, when Van Kiep Street is the most crowded and bustling.
"I have been selling on Van Kiep Street for several years now. One time, because it was raining, I set up my stall late, but customers still patiently waited," she said.

Ms. Khanh Linh (26 years old), an office worker, said that whenever she has free time, she often goes to Van Kiep Street to eat and drink with friends. "The food here is diverse, from drinks to dry dishes, sweet soups, fried foods... and the prices are much cheaper than in other areas. Especially, the restaurants are close together, so if you go around, you can eat everything without worrying about the price," Ms. Linh shared.
Ba Chieu Market Cuisine
Next to Van Kiep Street, Gia Dinh Ward also has Ba Chieu Market with many delicious dishes at cheap prices. Not only famous as a bustling shopping place, Ba Chieu Market is also a familiar stop for food lovers in Ho Chi Minh City. The market is always bustling with dozens of rich dishes, affordable prices, suitable for all diners.

The stalls selling beef noodle soup, crab noodle soup, steamed rice rolls, bread... are located along the paths leading to the market, both hot and fragrant. A full portion of crab noodle soup here is only about 30,000 VND, including sausage, crab, tofu and blood, very affordable for workers. The eateries in Ba Chieu market do not have luxurious tables and chairs, and are quite small, but diners still stop by to enjoy. One of them is Mrs. Khanh's steamed rice roll shop near Ba Chieu market.

Mrs. Khanh's banh cuon shop is a familiar place for those who "like" to wait. Instead of being angry, for many people, waiting while watching Mrs. Khanh make banh cuon is one of the things that keeps them coming back.
Mrs. Khanh's shop is often in a state of "being out of breath", partly because there are many customers, and partly because she only starts pouring the rice cakes and rolling the fillings when customers order. The plates of food brought to the table for customers to enjoy still retain the hot taste of the rice cakes just out of the oven, so the flavor is very "addictive".
