Successful surgery for foreigner with severe cervical spine injury

On the afternoon of July 7, the leader of Khanh Hoa General Hospital said that the hospital's Spinal Surgery Department had successfully performed surgery on a 26-year-old patient, a Korean national, with a serious cervical spine injury.

The patient was admitted to the hospital with quadriplegia and acute urinary retention due to spinal cord compression, with a high risk of sequelae if not treated promptly. After examination and paraclinical tests, the doctor determined that the patient had multiple fractures of the cervical vertebrae and spinal cord damage. Given the patient's critical condition, the team of doctors from the Department of Spinal Surgery and the Department of Surgery - Anesthesia and Resuscitation performed surgery to fix the cervical spine with screws, releasing the patient's spinal cord compression. After 4 hours of surgery, the surgery was successful. The results of the imaging examination showed that the fixation system was solid, combining the bones precisely in each position. The patient recovered well after surgery, regained sensation, and was especially able to move his limbs.

The department's team of doctors regularly receive training abroad, especially in countries with advanced medicine such as Japan. Thanks to that, the Spinal Surgery Department has mastered many difficult techniques in treating complex spinal diseases and injuries. Over the years, the department has successfully treated a number of cases of foreign tourists traveling to Khanh Hoa who suffered spinal injuries.
