Developing traditional medicine combined with modern medicine to improve people's health

Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long emphasized that traditional medicine has a very important position and role in Vietnamese medicine. The Deputy Prime Minister praised the results that the traditional medicine sector has achieved in recent times. That is, the traditional medicine examination and treatment network has been invested in, newly built, and expanded, currently there are 5 large central hospitals, 58 provincial hospitals. The quality of traditional medicine examination and treatment, the quality of medicinal herbs and medicines are getting better and better...

In addition to the achieved results, there are still many limitations, such as the rate of traditional medicine examination and treatment is still low, only reaching 3.3% (target 15%). One of the reasons is that there has not been a real systematic investment, the policy mechanism has not kept up with the requirements, the solutions are not consistent and not effective.

To effectively implement General Secretary To Lam's direction on combining traditional medicine with modern medicine in diagnosis, treatment, care and improvement of people's health, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long suggested that in the draft to advise the Politburo to issue a resolution on protecting and caring for people's health in the near future, the Ministry of Health needs to analyze, clarify the causes and propose specific, feasible, synchronous solutions with long-term strategic significance, and must strongly innovate in thinking.

The Ministry of Health and relevant ministries and branches review current legal documents to see if the contents related to YDCT are sufficient to consolidate and propose to competent authorities.

Regarding human resource training and development, first of all, it is necessary to have professional titles so that medical staff can practice with peace of mind; it is necessary to urgently complete procedures to build a second facility of the Institute of Traditional Medicine.

Regarding scientific research activities, we must strive to have products with unique identities for promotion, with the synchronization of the insurance agency. Agree on the policy that there will be proposals to focus on investment and upgrade key hospitals. Regarding medicinal resources, there should be a planning of medicinal areas following the model of Quang Nam province (old), combining 4 parties including the state, scientists, businesses and farmers. From there, specific products and pharmaceuticals will be created.

Regarding international cooperation, there must be specific policies and projects to send students to study in countries strong in traditional medicine such as China to train human resources in traditional medicine...
