In the context of strong development of information technology, preserving and promoting the habit of reading, especially for the young generation, becomes more necessary than ever. The contest creates a space for students to explore and express their love for books, forming reading habits and skills, thereby contributing to restoring the spirit of reading in the community.

Inspirational Stories

Reading is not only a habit but also a journey of discovery, an endless source of inspiration for everyone. With an emotional and profound contest entry, Pham Thi Thu Thao, a student of class 10D1, Phuoc Binh High School, Phuoc Binh Ward, affirmed the power of books in the process of personal development. With the essay writing topic about a work that has a strong impact on the will to strive confidently, entering a new era of the nation, Thu Thao chose the book No Peak Too High by Professor Phan Van Truong as her entry.

In her entry, Thu Thao wrote: “Sometimes in life, we will come across a book not only to read, but also to listen to ourselves. A book not only to be “good” but also to “stay”... Thank you for the book that not only inspired, but also gently awakened in me a lasting belief that no peak is too far away, if we know how to keep our faith, constantly strive and dare to live true to ourselves”. Thu Thao said: “Thanks to the book, I no longer see limits as barriers, but as silent challenges, inviting me to move forward every day, with all my sincerity and determination to constantly strive, with faith and strong will, so that each day I can live fully with my own dreams and stories”.

The character that inspired Vo Phan Minh Thu, a student of class 8A7, Tan Phu Secondary School, Dong Phu commune, is teacher Nguyen Ngoc Ky, author of the book I Go to School, first published in 1970.

Minh Thu confided: “After reading the book, I looked at myself again, having a healthy body, living in an era of a developed country, being loved by my parents, being able to go to school fully, but not having any determination, effort or effort, all I had at that time was self-consciousness, fear, fear of failure, fear of falling... I began to change myself, change my way of thinking, perception, and actions. I gradually became more confident, more daring. I started to participate in more activities and competitions organized by the school and locality. At first, when I was assigned to participate, I was very worried, afraid that I would not be able to do it, but then I remembered Mr. Ky, remembered his journey to overcome fate, remembered his efforts and attempts, I had more courage, more determination to try”.

The Reading Culture Ambassador Contest was launched in March 2025, attracting 686 articles and 7 videos from students from schools. After 3 rounds of serious judging, the Organizing Committee awarded prizes to 40 excellent works and selected 6 highest-winning entries to participate in the national final round.

Quietly restore reading culture

This year, many entries to the Reading Culture Ambassador Contest impressed the judges with their choice of meaningful books, good solutions to spread the love for books. Some entries were presented elaborately, beautifully, mature in writing, profound in thinking and innocent in feeling.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuy Van, a member of the jury, shared: “The emotional and sincere compositions and sharing have made the jury believe that for students, books are extremely close companions throughout their lives. We highly appreciate the entry of Pham Thi Thu Thao, a student of class 10D1, Phuoc Binh High School, for its good emotions, tight and convincing arguments. Or the entry of Le Ngoc Cat Tuong, a student of class 3/4, Thanh An Primary School, for its innocent, natural writing style and age-appropriate expressions.”

Silently helping students affirm the value of books in their journey of self-development, especially forming flexible thinking and the ability to think independently, encouraging creativity are teachers and schools. Ms. Tran Hoai Phuong, Head of the Literature Group, Phuoc Binh High School (Phuoc Binh Ward) - the school with many contestants winning the most first prizes (with 11 prizes) - said: "The Reading Culture Ambassador Contest is a valuable effort in building a young generation who loves reading, contributing to the formation of a developing and sustainable learning society. To help students improve their reading culture, the school always cares and creates all conditions to build the movement, from choosing the right person in charge to investing in material and spiritual resources to develop a reading culture. As the person in charge and Head of the Literature Group, I regularly deploy and remind teachers in the group, homeroom teachers of each class to pay attention to students' reading culture and integrate it right into subjects and activities".

As a school that has participated in the Reading Culture Ambassador Contest for many years and won many awards in recent years, this year, Tan Phu Secondary School, Dong Phu Commune, continued to win the award for having the most participants (214 students) and 7 individual awards. Ms. Luu Thi Thoan, a school librarian, added: “I actively coordinate with homeroom teachers and literature teachers to widely disseminate information about the contest, creating spiritual motivation by highlighting students who have won high prizes in previous years. Along with that, I integrate the content of “reading culture” into class meetings, flag salutes, and display and introduce new and good books to attract students to the library to read. Increase reading sessions at school such as: organizing Book Festivals, or Friendly Open Libraries; encourage students to write Reading Diaries, share their feelings about good books; hang banners and slogans to create a lively atmosphere, spread the spirit of love for books among students; form groups of experienced students to exchange good articles that have won prizes so that students can learn from each other.”

This year’s Reading Culture Ambassador Contest has successfully completed. This year’s ambassadors have emerged, through their exams, expressing their love for books, affirming the value of books in their own personal development journey. Through reading, students not only acquire knowledge but also form life values, skills and qualities to become good citizens in the future.
