June PMI drops to 48.9, new orders lowest in two years.
In Report No. 586/2025/TTDT dated July 1, 2025 of the Government Electronic Information Portal, information, press and public opinion points related to direction and administration work, including 2 contents:
"PMI in June drops to 48.9, new orders at two-year low": According to a report from S&P Global, the S&P Global Vietnam Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index™ (PMI) fell to 48.9 in June from 49.8 in May. This is also the third consecutive month that the PMI has been below the 50-point threshold, signaling a slight deterioration in business conditions as the first half of the year draws to a close, while new orders are at a two-year low. S&P Global experts said that Vietnamese manufacturers continued to face weak demand in June, especially in the export sector. Although new orders declined, manufacturing output continued to increase slightly. On the price front, input costs rose slightly after falling in May, leading to the first increase in selling prices since early 2025.
"Extending the schedule for checking product labels so that businesses have time to convert" : Despite expectations from the merger of provinces and cities, many businesses are facing difficulties with procedures from updating addresses on invoices, changing packaging to banking procedures, import and export... Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Luan, Director of the Meet More coffee brand, said that the company only changed the administrative address on paper from Nhi Binh commune (Cu Chi district) to Dong Thanh commune because the factory is still in the same location. However, the international market is not as "flexible" as the domestic market, so all export documents are closely linked to the registered address. What makes businesses more worried is that the time to redo the documents is not short when registering a new manufacturer code, it can take 4-6 months, even longer for some demanding markets. In addition, a more difficult problem for businesses is packaging when there is a large inventory of boxes and labels with the old address printed on them, so businesses have to start over to replace the packaging. Therefore, Mr. Luan believes that management agencies need to extend the schedule for checking labels so that businesses have time to convert and avoid wasting printed packaging. In addition, businesses are also focusing on adjusting their software systems, contracts, etc. to ensure VAT invoices are issued, because all contracts must have accurate addresses. Mr. Nguyen Van Tri, General Director of Lap Phuc Company, believes that the State should have a reasonable delay and a roadmap for businesses from 3 to 6 months to gradually adjust.
Regarding the above issue, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to study press information according to the synthesis of the Government Electronic Information Portal mentioned above; proactively have appropriate solutions according to functions, tasks and authority; promptly report to competent authorities on issues beyond their authority.
