For the first time, the image of President Ho Chi Minh and the patriotic Vietnamese people is vividly and realistically recreated on the stage of the musical “Cafe Banh Mi” – a work performed by Vietnamese and Korean artists.

This is a work performed by the Vietnam Drama Theater in collaboration with Metaforce Vietnam Company on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025) to spread messages about the culture, people and history of the two countries through images and stage language, thereby enhancing the relationship between the two countries in artistic exchange and cooperation, contributing to bringing to the public plays with good and truly meaningful messages.

Artistic director Park Hyun Woo said that this project aims to show the greatness of President Ho Chi Minh, a national hero who is extremely dear and close to the people. There are few leaders in the world who are called Uncle by the people, as they call their family members.

In the musical, his spirit and thoughts encompass the entire nation and all classes of people, expressed through each character in the work. They are nameless heroes. This is also the reason why he chose the name of the musical “Banh Mi Cafe” – two extremely popular specialties, closely associated with the lives of Vietnamese people today.

The musical “Banh Mi Cafe” reflects the bustling atmosphere of the days before the August Revolution of the Vietnamese people.

The play has a realistic social context of Vietnam during the painful and famine-filled war years and praises the patriotic people, including the great contribution of the petty bourgeoisie who devoted not only money but also sacrificed their lives to join the resistance and the revolution.

Despite facing countless difficulties and hardships, the Vietnamese people still maintained their faith in victory and refused to submit to any oppression from the enemy. The indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people in the August Revolution of 1945 was a noble expression of patriotism and solidarity, thereby gaining independence and freedom and affirming the indomitable will of the Vietnamese people in the struggle for national liberation.

The work brings together a strong creative team from Vietnam and Korea: Scriptwriter Seo Sang Wan, Artistic Director Park Hyun Woo, Director Cho Joon Hui, Stage Designer Lim Chung Il, Choreographer Kim Sung Il... On the Vietnamese side, there is Artistic Director: Director of Vietnam Drama Theater, Meritorious Artist Kieu Minh Hieu; co-author: Le Trinh; co-director: Meritorious Artist Hoang Lam Tung; Vietnamese musician: Tuan Nghia; vocal coach: Dong Thi Thanh Nhan; Production Director: Nguyen Thi Mai Quyen and artists of Vietnam Drama Theater.

According to Meritorious Artist Kieu Minh Hieu, President Ho Chi Minh is a great leader who has left a deep mark on the history of the Vietnamese people and humanity. Although he has passed away, his simple image, thoughts and moral example will always live forever in the hearts of generations of Vietnamese people and international friends. Therefore, honoring and showing gratitude to him is an honor and also a mission for those who work in literature in general and in the performing arts in particular.
