According to Tuoi Tre Online 's records at Xang Hang school, Yen Khuong Primary School, Yen Khuong border commune, Thanh Hoa province, the past three days of heavy rain and floods have brought hundreds of cubic meters of soil, rocks, tree roots, and dry firewood from the hills and mountains into classrooms and the school yard.

The entire brick wall system of this school was damaged, collapsed, and washed away with a total length of about 200m.

The ground of the 5 classrooms and teachers' office area has sunk, the tiles are cracked and severely damaged, making working conditions unsatisfactory. Student desks and chairs, school supplies, books, and teaching equipment were destroyed by floodwaters.

The teachers' housing area was flooded, buried under rocks and soil, damaging many equipment, beds, cabinets, and personal items.

In particular, the school yard is being buried by hundreds of cubic meters of rock and soil, making teaching and learning difficult.

After the recent flash floods, the stream next to the school has changed course, flowing straight into the teachers' housing area, posing a potential risk of being destroyed by future floods, causing unsafe conditions for students and teachers.

On the afternoon of August 28, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Le Minh Thu, Head of the Department of Culture and Society of Yen Khuong Commune, said that Xang Hang school is located in Xang Hang village, bordering the Vietnam - Laos border, nearly 15km from the center of Yen Khuong Commune. This is a large school in the commune, with nearly 100 students and teachers.

The recent floods have destroyed many items and teaching equipment of the school, directly affecting the teaching and learning activities of teachers and students of Yen Khuong Primary School.

Immediately after the flood, from the afternoon of August 27 and August 28, the commune Party Committee and government mobilized the police, border guards, military , militia, and local youth union to focus on clearing mud, sand, and rocks in the classrooms. For hundreds of cubic meters of rocks and soil in the schoolyard, the commune will mobilize mechanical equipment to handle them in the coming days.

"There is only one week left until the new school year 2025 - 2026 begins, so the People's Committee of Yen Khuong commune is focusing on directing functional forces to overcome the consequences of floods at Xang Hang school.
