They are Associate Professor, Dr. Truong Thanh Tung, 36 years old, head of the research team designing and synthesizing new drugs, and Dr. Nguyen Viet Huong, 35 years old, deputy head of the department of materials science and engineering, Phenikaa University.
Representatives of young intellectuals
Talking to Tuoi Tre Online , both scientists said that being chosen to represent millions of young Vietnamese intellectuals to participate in the intellectual bloc in the parade celebrating the 80th anniversary of National Day at Ba Dinh Square was a joy and a sacred experience that will be unforgettable.
"Not only intellectuals, but anyone standing in the parade, marching through Ba Dinh Square, through the streets, feels very proud and honored. Then there is the reminder of the responsibility of the young intellectual generation in the journey of contributing knowledge to the Fatherland," said Dr. Huong.
To be honored to be among the intellectuals, Dr. Nguyen Viet Huong had admirable achievements such as second prize in the analysis subject of the National Student Math Olympiad; valedictorian of the university entrance exam of the University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (29/30 points);
Valedictorian of the engineering and research master's training program of the National Institute of Applied Sciences of Lyon (INSA de Lyon, France); Golden Globe Award 2024; Creative Youth Badge; Outstanding Young Vietnamese Faces 2024...
Associate Professor Dr. Truong Thanh Tung was once known as the youngest candidate to qualify as an associate professor in 2024; Golden Globe Award 2021; Outstanding Young Face of Vietnam 2022...
Previously, in 2012, after graduating from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Hanoi University of Pharmacy, Associate Professor, Dr. Truong Thanh Tung continued to study and work in many countries such as Korea, Denmark, and the United States.
Associate Professor, Dr. Truong Thanh Tung has many impressive research projects such as inventing new HIV treatment drugs, finding new derivatives in cancer treatment, developing new antibiotic replacements that promise to produce "Made in Vietnam" drug products.

Studying abroad is ripe for "coming home"
Having spent many years studying and working abroad, both young scientists believe that returning to Vietnam to work is inevitable, just waiting for the right day to decide to "come home".
"In developed countries, there are many research forces, whether I am there or not is like a drop in the ocean, without me there will be someone else. However, the force of scientific research and high-quality education and training in the country is extremely lacking, currently still lacking a lot. If we want to develop internal strength for the country, we must return home," said Dr. Huong.
Also in 2019, Associate Professor Dr. Truong Thanh Tung also decided to return. Both young scientists joined Phenikaa University to focus on research and teaching, accompanying students.
Here, Associate Professor, Dr. Truong Thanh Tung has many favorable conditions to nurture and develop drug projects, apply research results to the practice of the pharmaceutical industry in Vietnam. In particular, participate in teaching, training students, expanding the research group in the field of design and synthesis of new drugs.
Meanwhile, Dr. Nguyen Viet Huong and the SALD group pursue an aspiration to create advanced nanomaterials, paving the way for clean energy and modern technology.

"With atomic monolayer deposition technology, we research and develop ultra-thin coatings that help increase battery life, protect electronic components, or photocatalytic materials for renewable energy. This is not only scientific research, but also a solution towards a green, sustainable Vietnam.
Phenikaa young intellectuals need to be pioneers in bringing research closely to life, so that science can truly accompany the community," Dr. Huong shared.
Youth must commit
Both scientists agree that dedication is the most important quality for young intellectuals. According to Dr. Nguyen Viet Huong, in reality, there is no interesting, fun job that is easy. Fun jobs are all hard. Therefore, researchers must find happiness and love for their jobs in the hard work.
"Every effort in the lab, no matter how small, can become a brick in building the country's future. The most important thing is not the starting point, but the perseverance to go all the way," Dr. Huong advised.
Associate Professor Dr. Truong Thanh Tung advises young people to dare to choose fields of study that may be strange, difficult, or not hot right now, but have potential and are being oriented by the Government, so they can confidently choose.
In addition, students need to take advantage of every moment to improve their foreign languages and communication skills, to absorb a huge amount of knowledge from humanity. Especially in the digital age, when AI is developing, having a foreign language will help increase self-study ability, advance quickly and far in the field.
