The Boundary of Fairness
According to director, Meritorious Artist Trinh Lam Tung, there are comments demanding that Vietnamese animated films must be as good as the works of Pixar, DreamWorks or WarnerBros. "Is that dream wrong? Certainly not. We are also aspire, even more than you do, because in this profession, even if we have to trade our youth, finances or health, everyone wants to reach those heights. But it is impossible to reach the top in one step, we are still very far from them, that is the reality that we must accept and try to change, take one step at a time. The same goes for the world's monuments in animated films, they also take each step, overcome each obstacle to reach the success they have today," Meritorious Artist Trinh Lam Tung expressed.

Previously, at the premiere of the film Cold Sun, director Le Hung Phuong also said that he felt hurt and decided to temporarily stop making films until he had a good project or when he felt happy. “It is right for bad films to be criticized, but nowadays many people are ready to criticize on social media regardless, criticize bad or good films, criticize films without even seeing them… Good people criticize correctly, I feel ashamed, trying to correct my mistakes, but sometimes I am criticizing without understanding why, I feel very frustrated, everything seems to slip out of my hands,” he expressed.
Recently, Vietnamese cinema has also emerged with the story of seeding (spreading information) - a new form of promotion, usually through comments, sharing, creating discussions on social networks, forums... Seeding movies has two common directions: either praising or criticizing with the biggest goal of creating a viral wave (attention) and word of mouth effect. However, from a positive form of marketing, seeding movies has been transformed into a tool for slander and criticism, especially when there are 2 Vietnamese movies released at the same time. Many Vietnamese directors and producers have spoken out about being victims of dirty seeding.
Building a space for dialogue
Most directors, producers and actors share the same opinion that praise and criticism are inevitable. Because once the film is released to the public, it no longer belongs to any individual. Producer Hoang Quan believes that when a film is released, everyone has the right to speak up. "I accept living with seeding and negative feedback. But, I also have the right to choose and filter valuable information and lessons to make myself better," he emphasized. Director Trinh Lam Tung added: "For me, there is no positive or negative feedback, but different views and perspectives. I am always alert and happy to accept everything. More importantly, who is the feedback coming from?"
In fact, not only with movies but with any art form, the right to praise and criticism is completely normal. Especially, in the context of the increasing demand, taste and aesthetic taste of the audience, the demands will also be more sentient. However, it would be condemnable if praise becomes flattery despite the fact that the movie still has many flaws and criticism is directed towards personal attacks, defaming the producer and actors. Freedom of speech is a right, but responsible speech is civilized. Praise and criticism are not wrong, but to have the right way to praise and criticize and make the people involved convinced and convinced is the difficult thing.
The recent explosion of praise and criticism of films is also due to the fact that film criticism has not been able to demonstrate its true role and weight. This leads to the fact that praise and criticism are sometimes biased towards emotion. Especially in the context of the explosion of social networks, professional voices that have the role of guiding and providing critical value are drowned out among thousands of uncontrollable comments. Therefore, it is necessary to build a space where all critical opinions have a basis and professionals, critics and audiences can dialogue together.
Cinema cannot develop without audiences, especially without multi-dimensional feedback. Praise and criticism, if placed in the right place, will be the driving force for creativity.
