Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long chaired the conference at the Hanoi bridge.
On December 25, 2025, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 1893/QD-TTg on promulgating the Program for developing traditional medicine and pharmacy, combining traditional medicine and pharmacy with modern medicine and pharmacy until 2030 with the general goal of "Comprehensively developing traditional medicine and pharmacy, enhancing the combination of traditional medicine and pharmacy with modern medicine and pharmacy to protect, care for, and improve people's health in the new situation".
After 5 years of implementation, traditional medicine has achieved a number of achievements such as: The system of basic traditional medicine facilities has been invested and upgraded; the traditional medicine network at the grassroots level has been increasingly consolidated and developed; the quality of medicinal herbs and medicinal ingredients is guaranteed, traditional medicine is diverse and highly effective; traditional medicine examination and treatment services are increasingly rich and diverse, and the quality is improved... Up to now, the Central level has 5 traditional medicine hospitals, of which 2 are under the Ministry of Health . There are 61 traditional medicine hospitals at the provincial level. Some provinces that have implemented traditional medicine activities well at the grassroots level are Thua Thien - Hue, Hai Phong, Dong Nai, Lam Dong...
In Tuyen Quang, identifying the advantages of natural resources and conditions, the province has issued mechanisms and policies to facilitate the cultivation, harvesting, use of medicinal herbs and scientific research in the field of traditional medicine. The province plans to form a precious medicinal herb growing area under the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period in Na Hang with an area of nearly 1,500 hectares.
The quality of examination and treatment of diseases using traditional medicine in the province is also increasingly improved. 100% of commune and ward health stations have staff in charge of Oriental medicine work, 100% of health stations with Oriental medicine examination and treatment are covered by health insurance. The Provincial Oriental Medicine Association preserves and inherits 350 traditional medicine prescriptions and 70 precious medicinal plants.
At the conference, delegates discussed a number of issues on the development of traditional medicine in the police force; the development of medicinal herbs; the communication work on the development of traditional medicine; the construction and development of the traditional medicine system at the grassroots level in the locality to serve the initial medical examination and treatment; the development of medicinal herbs in ethnic minority areas, remote and isolated areas; the combination of traditional medicine and modern medicine in treatment, research and training; the development of domestic medicinal herb cultivation according to GACP...
Concluding the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long requested that in the coming time, relevant ministries, departments, sectors, and People's Committees of provinces and cities continue to closely coordinate with the Ministry of Health to complete the system of drafting legal documents on traditional medicine and pharmacy in association with the two-level government. In particular, it is necessary to focus on drafting the Law on Traditional Medicine and Pharmacy; coordinate in developing strategies and programs to ensure medicinal material security.
At the same time, strengthen the application of information technology in innovating the management system and providing traditional medicine services; arrange sufficient human resources for the traditional medicine management system from the central to local levels; arrange budgets to implement key programs for developing traditional medicine... Thereby, promoting the inherent potential and strengths of traditional medicine in caring for and protecting people's health.
