The precious metal’s rise was fueled by a wave of investors seeking safe-haven assets after the US House of Representatives officially passed a bill to cut taxes and expand government spending - a move that increased concerns about fiscal risks in the world’s largest economy.
Accordingly, the tax bill above extends tax cuts, increases spending on border security and the military, and sharply cuts the budget for two major health programs, Medicare and Medicaid. Notably, this bill could also increase the US public debt by trillions of dollars.
In addition, US President Donald Trump on July 3 also announced that he would start sending out tariff notices from July 4, instead of continuing to negotiate individually with trade partners. If President Trump maintains the tariff rate on July 9 as previously announced, analysts predict that the USD will weaken and gold prices may continue to rise.
According to experts, the US Federal Reserve (Fed) is stuck between two difficult choices. Accordingly, inflation has decreased, meaning the Fed can cut interest rates. However, cutting interest rates when the economy is still doing well will fuel the risk of inflation, especially in the context of the new US tariffs being activated - a factor that is also likely to cause inflation.
Meanwhile, according to Kitco News' weekly gold survey, Wall Street professionals are hesitant about gold's short-term prospects, while retail investors are showing growing confidence that gold prices will continue to rise.
