Brazil and Vietnam compete to increase pepper export growth
According to the latest report from Ptexim, purchasing activities from major markets such as the US, the European Union (EU) and the Middle East are playing an important role in driving the upward trend in pepper prices in the global market. The fundamental factors related to supply and demand are forecast to continue to support this upward momentum throughout the rest of 2025, creating a positive picture for the pepper industry.
Vietnam exported a total of 124,133 tonnes of pepper in the first half of 2025, however, domestic inventories are expected to decline sharply as this year’s crop is forecast to be the lowest in many years, putting pressure on domestic supplies. In addition, with about eight months remaining before the new harvest begins in 2026, the current inventory shortage will be a major challenge for the market, as Vietnam’s pepper inventories are currently at their lowest in the past five to six years.
Also according to the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA), based on statistics from Comexstat, in June 2025, Brazil exported 5,758 tons of pepper, reaching a value of 66.4 million USD. Although this figure decreased by 44.4% in volume and 43.2% in value compared to the previous month, it increased by 8% in volume and 64.4% in value compared to the same period in 2024. Among Brazil's export markets, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) holds the top position, followed by Vietnam, India, Senegal and Morocco.
By the end of June 2025, Brazil's total pepper export volume reached 49,761 tons with a total turnover of up to 309.7 million USD, recording a growth of 33.8% in volume and 118.6% in value over the same period last year. The main consumption markets of Brazilian pepper include Vietnam with 17,563 tons, a sharp increase of 197.2%; UAE with 4,675 tons, an increase of 31.4%; India with 4,623 tons, an increase of 18.8%; along with Senegal and Morocco reaching 3,696 tons and 3,502 tons, respectively. These figures show strong growth and expansion of the Brazilian pepper export market in the first half of 2025.
