Proposal to open 1,000-bed trauma hospital in Ho Chi Minh City

Medical experts in Ho Chi Minh City believe that it is necessary to establish a Trauma Hospital like many other countries, to meet the treatment needs of people with injuries to the head, chest, abdomen, limbs, spine, etc.

This idea was mentioned in a meeting on March 12 between the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health and experts, in the context of the city's urgent need to resolve the long-standing overload situation at the Orthopedic Trauma Hospital. Recently, the units proposed that the city's leaders adjust the land plot planned to be assigned to Binh Dan Hospital to build a second facility, converting it into a Trauma Hospital with a scale of 1,000 beds.

Experts believe that the Trauma Hospital will help reduce the burden of trauma emergency care for general and specialized hospitals in the central medical cluster, especially the current Trauma and Orthopedics Hospital. The geographical location for building a new hospital also has many advantages. For example, the hospital built in the Tan Kien specialized medical cluster is located next to the city's important traffic routes to the Western provinces. According to the plan, in the near future, there will be a new 115 Emergency Center, a Blood Bank, and a helipad built at the City Children's Hospital... Thus, this area is very convenient for emergency care.

If the city approves the investment in building a Trauma Hospital, specialized and general hospitals will share specialized human resources to operate effectively.

In the world , some countries have a trauma hospital model. For example, Korea plans to develop 17 Trauma Centers distributed in 5 regions nationwide. The centers connect information with the external emergency system to receive and evaluate trauma cases, coordinate ambulances or helicopters to bring victims back for treatment, with a process within one hour.
