France promotes the Legion of Honor to Professor Tran Thanh Van and his wife

The French President decided to upgrade the Legion of Honor awarded to Professor Tran Thanh Van and Professor Le Kim Ngoc from the title of Knight to the rank of Officer.

On July 14, a representative of the Quy Nhon International Center for Interdisciplinary Science andEducation (ICISE) confirmed that the French President had just decided to promote the Legion of Honor to the couple Professor Tran Thanh Van and Professor Le Kim Ngoc.

Accordingly, on the occasion of the French National Day (July 14), on July 11, the French President signed a decision on the promotion and appointment of the National Legion of Honor.

Among the individuals awarded, the French State recognized and awarded the Legion of Honor, Officer class, to Professor Tran Thanh Van and Professor Le Kim Ngoc.

Previously, Professor Tran Thanh Van, a physicist , was awarded the Legion of Honor by the French Republic on February 23, 2000.

Similarly, Professor Le Kim Ngoc, a biologist, was awarded the Legion of Honor by France on September 6, 2016.

For many years, Professor Tran Thanh Van's name has been associated with the following activities: Rencontres du Vietnam; Quy Nhon International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education; Vallet Education Scholarship; and SOS Orphanage.

He is the one who established a bridge connecting international scientists with great influence in Vietnam through the Rencontres du Vietnam and the meeting events "Reunion Blois" and "Reunion Moriond".

Meanwhile, Professor Le Kim Ngoc is the one who introduced the concept of "thin cell slices" (TCL), a discovery that created a revolution in the field of plant biotechnology.

TCL invention is widely applied in breeding, domestication of mother plants, and in gene grafting technology to create new varieties.

Professor Le Kim Ngoc is also the president of the Association for Helping Vietnamese Children in France and contributed to the construction of the SOS Children's Villages in Da Lat, Dong Hoi and the Thuy Xuan Children's Protection Center (Hue).

Professor Le Kim Ngoc is the wife of Professor Tran Thanh Van. She is also a strong collaborator with Professor Van in founding the Rencontres du Vietnam and building ICISE, Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh.
