The history of the Vietnamese people is a heroic epic woven from countless cultural imprints, including ancient civilizations that were once brilliant and still resonate in the heart of the motherland. One of those civilizations is the Oc Eo culture - an outstanding archaeological culture of the Southwest region, a vivid testament to a period of brilliant development of the ancient kingdom of Phu Nam.
Oc Eo – Ba The Archaeological Site, located in Oc Eo Commune, An Giang Province, is not only a valuable treasure of Vietnamese archaeology but also a common pride of humanity. With unique discoveries of architecture, tombs, relics and ancient urban systems, Oc Eo – Ba The has proven its important role in international trade, beliefs and ancient civilizations. This is a testament to the early cultural exchange between East and West and is a precious heritage that needs to be preserved and spread to the community, especially the younger generation.
Realizing the importance of preserving and promoting those cultural and historical values, the Oc Eo Cultural Relics Management Board of An Giang province organized a series of propaganda activities "Oc Eo - Ba The archaeological site towards World Cultural Heritage" with the active participation of a large number of students and teachers. It is not only an extracurricular learning activity but also a journey of discovery , connection, and spreading the spirit of love for the homeland through the values of Heritage.
With the aim of implementing well the policies of the Party, State and An Giang province on management, conservation, safety protection and promotion of the value of Oc Eo cultural relics and artifacts; enhancing understanding for people in An Giang province.
Thereby, orienting students to be aware of the community, sharing responsibility and benefits in preserving and promoting the country's cultural heritage;
Continue to innovate communication activities on Oc Eo culture; Strengthen coordination with units in propaganda work for students through cultural heritage;
Introduce and communicate about Oc Eo culture to students to help them understand more about the heritage value, awareness and responsibility of themselves, to contribute to preserving and promoting the heritage value of humanity.
Vietnamese Culture; Overview of activities to complete the dossier of the Oc Eo Cultural Relic Management Board towards World Cultural Heritage; Mobile exhibition of the model of the National Treasure of Oc Eo culture in An Giang province.
Up to now, the Oc Eo Cultural Relic Management Board has held 6 sessions with nearly 700 students from high schools in An Giang province. Through the sessions, the students expressed their desire that Oc Eo culture will be nominated as a World Cultural Heritage.
Student Lu Nguyen Anh Tu, class 11A1, Tran Van Thanh High School, shared: As a student in a school with a long tradition of education, closely linked to the history of local development, my friends and I all feel the need to preserve historical and cultural relics to contribute to the development and preservation of traditional values of the nation. Therefore, we students are very happy if the Oc Eo-Ba The Archaeological Site is recognized as a World Cultural Heritage.
Previously, on July 8, Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Le Trung Ho conducted a field survey and worked with the Oc Eo Cultural Relic Management Board and stated that Oc Eo culture is an extremely valuable heritage, a source of pride not only for An Giang province, but also for the whole of Vietnam.
Therefore, preserving and promoting the value of this heritage is not only a responsibility, but also a historical command. The Vice Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee requested the Oc Eo Cultural Relic Management Board and related departments and branches to complete the personnel of the steering committee and establish a provincial executive board to strengthen direct and consistent direction and management of the task of building a World Cultural Heritage dossier.
Up to now, the Department of Culture and Sports of An Giang has advised the Provincial People's Committee to issue a document requesting the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences to continue developing a project to edit, establish scientific records and preserve excavated artifacts and specimens in the period of 2017-2020, to systematize documents and ensure the long-term value of the heritage; urgently deploy measures to protect artifacts and better serve research and sightseeing work.
