July 15, The Department of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Hospital 22-12 ( Khanh Hoa ) announced that it had just successfully performed a procedure to remove a foreign object from an elderly patient. The patient, Mr. D.VB (69 years old, residing in Cam Ranh Ward), finally found the "culprit" causing his abdominal pain.
Mr. B. said that the pain had been dull for more than a year, concentrated in the lower abdomen. Recently, the symptoms have tended to increase gradually and persist, seriously affecting his daily activities and quality of life. Despite seeing a doctor and taking many medications, the condition has not improved.

When he came to the 22-12 Hospital, the patient was ordered to undergo a colonoscopy. The results surprised the medical team. The patient's colon was ulcerated, and three long bones, suspected to be fish or poultry bones, were found embedded deep into the colon wall.
Immediately, the patient underwent endoscopy to remove the foreign object and continued to monitor and treat the ulcer. Fortunately, the foreign object did not cause serious complications such as intestinal perforation or abdominal abscess.

Specialist Doctor 2 Cao Nguyen Dinh, Deputy Director and Head of the Department of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy at Hospital 22-12, recommends: "People, especially the elderly, need to eat slowly, chew thoroughly, and avoid swallowing bones or hard objects when eating. When experiencing symptoms such as prolonged abdominal pain or unexplained digestive disorders, you should go to a medical facility with a gastroenterology department for early examination and treatment."
The case of patient Đ.VB once again reminds us of the importance of eating carefully and not being subjective with prolonged abnormal symptoms.
