Quang Ninh currently has about 1,000 food service establishments, including restaurants, hotels, collective kitchens and establishments serving on cruise ships, mostly concentrated in Bai Chay and Hon Gai wards... Many units have proactively invested in upgrading facilities, standardizing kitchens and improving the capacity of staff. According to the provisions of Clause 3, Article 2 of Decree 155/2018/ND-CP, facility owners can train and confirm food safety knowledge for employees themselves, and are responsible for this result. The regulation facilitates internal training, but also places high demands on professional qualifications in processing and serving tourists.
Ms. Vu Thi Yen, in charge of food safety at a local hotel, shared: "As one of the first units in the food service industry to have HACCP certification; this is a food safety management system based on analyzing hazards and controlling critical points in the food production and processing process.
This certification strictly applies basic food safety standards and extends to international standards. We also have a dedicated position in charge of food safety, regularly sending employees to study HACCP-related knowledge, to food safety in the province as well as hiring other parties for training."
About 500 kitchens on cruise ships are managed to ensure safety for tourists visiting Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay.
To increase prevention of food poisoning risks during peak season and hot weather, the Department of Food Safety and Hygiene, Quang Ninh Department of Health organized many communication conferences, providing guidance on hazard identification, controlling the origin of raw materials and handling common violations.
Mr. Luu Duc Dung - Deputy Head of the Quang Ninh Food Safety and Hygiene Department said that in June alone, the Department had conducted surprise inspections of 12 establishments and severely punished units that violated regulations: "In reality, managers and people directly involved in food safety production often change continuously, so training on this knowledge is a regular thing, and the knowledge that most people hear is that we convey common mistakes that restaurants and hotels make, which food service establishments can learn from and immediately correct."
Summer is also the time when Quang Ninh’s island tourist destinations such as Van Don, Co To, Mong Cai… welcome many domestic and international tourists. Ensuring food safety is not only a mandatory requirement but also a part of the sustainable tourism development strategy, contributing to improving the reputation and quality of services.
