Actively preparing for the 13th Southeast Asian Para Games

On the afternoon of July 14, leaders of the Department of Sports for All and the Vietnam Paralympic Committee held a meeting to report on the progress of preparations for the 13th ASEAN Para Games. Director of the Vietnam Sports Department Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet chaired the meeting; Deputy Director Le Thi Hoang Yen also attended.

Within the framework of the meeting, the leaders of the Department heard reports on tasks related to the preparation for the Southeast Asian Para Games in Vietnam, including: Plan to establish the Delegation, participating forces, number of participating delegation officers, training organization for athletes... On that basis, the Department of Sports for All, the Vietnam Paralympic Committee also shared and asked for guidance from the leaders of the Vietnam Department of Sports and Physical Training in handling some problems and difficulties in order to have the best preparation for the Delegation before leaving for the Games.

According to the direction of Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet: The relevant parties need to have close coordination to clearly determine the number of athletes and the number of participating sports. With the physical characteristics of disabled athletes being different from top athletes, it is necessary to pay attention, closely monitor, and ensure the health and safety factors for each athlete participating in the Games.

After grasping the progress of the work implementation up to this point, Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet assigned Deputy Director Le Thi Hoang Yen to continue to work specifically and closely with the Department of Sports and Physical Training for Everyone, the Vietnam Paralympic Committee to have timely and accurate instructions to ensure the best conditions for the Vietnam Paralympic Sports Delegation during the preparation process from now until the official departure to attend the Games.

The 13th Southeast Asian Para Games will be held from January 15 to 27, 2026, in Thailand with 536 competitions in 19 sports, including: Archery, Athletics, Badminton, 5-a-side football for the visually impaired, Boccia, Bowling, Chess, Cycling, 7-a-side football for the visually impaired, Goalball, Judo for the visually impaired, Weightlifting, Shooting, Sitting volleyball, Swimming, Table tennis, Wheelchair basketball, Wheelchair fencing, Wheelchair tennis (of which 04 sports will be organized according to IPC supervision standards including: Athletics, Weightlifting, Cycling and Swimming).

The Vietnam Paralympic Sports Delegation is expected to attend the Games with 180-185 members, including: 140-143 athletes (including 2 leading athletes); 24 coaches, 3 doctors, 15 officials; striving to win 40-50 gold medals, ranking in the top 4-5 leading countries in the region.

Based on the athletes' achievements and according to the regulations of the Organizing Committee of the Games, the Vietnam Disabled Sports Delegation is expected to participate in 11 sports, including: Athletics (33 - 35 athletes, 5 coaches); Swimming (29 - 31 athletes, 4 coaches); Weightlifting (11 - 13 athletes, 2 coaches); Badminton (10 athletes, 2 coaches); Table tennis (15 athletes, 3 coaches); Chess (18 athletes, 03 coaches); Judo (4 athletes, 1 coach); Boccia (3 athletes, 1 coach); Archery (8 athletes, 1 coach); Tennis (2 athletes, 1 coach); Fencing (4 athletes, 1 coach).

Attending the Congress is an opportunity for Vietnamese officials, coaches, and athletes of the Disabled Sports to exchange, learn, share experiences, and strengthen solidarity with countries in the Southeast Asian region; at the same time, it is an opportunity to test and evaluate the capacity and professional level of Vietnamese athletes of the Disabled Sports to prepare for the participation in the 5th ASIAN Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan and the Paralympics in Los Angeles, USA in 2028.

As planned, the Departure Ceremony of the Vietnam Disabled Sports Delegation to attend the 13th ASEAN Para Games will be held on January 11, 2026, in Ho Chi Minh City.
