Huawei denies being "accused" of plagiarizing AI

Huawei's artificial intelligence research arm has denied allegations that a version of its Pangu Pro large language model copied elements from Alibaba's model, saying it was developed and trained independently, Reuters reported.

The statement came after an entity called HonestAGI posted an English-language article on the source code sharing platform Github, claiming that Huawei's Pangu Pro Moe model has a "significant degree of correlation" with Alibaba's Qwen 2.5 14B model.

The content of the post analyzed that Huawei's model was developed using "upcycling" rather than being trained from scratch, which sparked a lot of debate in the online AI community and technology media in China.

The statement also stressed that their findings revealed potential copyright infringement, falsification of information in technical reports, and misleading claims about Huawei's investment in model training.

Noah's Ark Lab said in a response that its model "is not based on legacy training from other manufacturers' models" and claimed to have "made significant innovations in architectural design and technical features." It also stressed that this is the first large-scale model built entirely on Huawei's Ascend chip platform.
