TOURISM PROMISES TO… “TAKE OFF”

The merger of Lao Cai and Yen Bai provinces is opening up new opportunities for many economic sectors, including tourism.

According to Mr. To Ba Hieu, Vice Chairman of Lao Cai Province Tourism Association: "The merger of Lao Cai and Yen Bai provinces creates a larger and more attractive tourism market."

Lao Cai tourism will have many more new and attractive tourism products.

“Previously, tourists could only go to Lao Cai to explore Sa Pa or to Yen Bai to admire Mu Cang Chai. Now, we can completely build seamless itineraries, heritage routes connecting these famous destinations, thereby extending the length of stay and increasing the spending of tourists.”

Mr. To Ba Hieu, Vice Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial Tourism Association

The resonance between Lao Cai with its strengths in highland resort tourism, cultural tourism, border gates and Yen Bai with its rich potential for eco-tourism in Thac Ba Lake and community tourism will create unique and highly competitive products.

The merger is also a golden opportunity for businesses to diversify their products and improve their competitiveness. Businesses can combine to create experiential tours that combine relaxation, exploring local culture, and green, sustainable tourism.

Thac Ba Lake is a potential destination for Lao Cai tourism.

“When businesses sit together and cooperate with each other, they can share experiences and resources, creating a combined strength to develop together, instead of competing on a small scale,” Mr. Hieu emphasized.

Furthermore, a larger province with more potential will be an attractive destination, attracting large investors in the field of tourism infrastructure. However, to turn potential into reality, Mr. To Ba Hieu said that Lao Cai tourism businesses need to be well prepared and take drastic actions. First of all, it is necessary to proactively research the market to understand the needs and trends of tourists in the new context. At the same time, constantly improve the quality of services, from investing in facilities, equipment to training professional human resources.

Thai - Muong Lo xoe dance enriches and deepens the national cultural identity of Lao Cai province.

“The key is to build unique tourism products that are imbued with the unique identity of the merged land. At the same time, businesses need to promote connections and cooperation with each other and with other localities to create attractive tours and routes. Finally, it is indispensable to invest heavily in promotion to bring the tourism image of the new province further, along with the commitment to develop sustainable tourism, protect the environment and preserve indigenous culture,” Mr. Hieu added.

With the initiative and innovation of the business community and the guidance and support from management agencies, the tourism industry can completely take off, create new values, and become a key economic sector of Lao Cai.

INCREASING REGIONAL CONNECTIVITY

The new Lao Cai has shaped a new development space with a breakthrough, which will focus on 1 dynamic axis along the Red River, 2 development poles in the North and South, 3 economic zones in the East, West and Central. 4 pillars of economic growth include industry, tourism - services, border gate economy and development of commodity agriculture.

Border gate economy is expected to develop rapidly in the future.

"After the merger, Lao Cai province will have more potential and room for the business community to develop" - Mr. Nguyen Huy Long - Chairman of Lao Cai Business Association said.

The advantage of Lao Cai International Border Gate, the gateway to the Southwest China market, will be further promoted when there is a large “rear” to provide a rich source of agricultural and forestry products. This will encourage businesses to invest in deep processing, increasing the value of products before exporting, instead of just exporting raw products as before.

In the industrial sector, Lao Cai, with its strengths in mining, metallurgy, and chemicals, will have more space to expand and develop concentrated industrial zones, and can also link with agricultural and forestry raw material areas to develop deep processing industry.

In agriculture, businesses participate in production linkages, invest in deep processing and export; build and deploy organic farming models, circular agriculture, develop livestock and crop farming associated with environmental protection.

Lao Cai will become the center for import and export of local agricultural products.

Mr. Nguyen Huy Long also said: "Lao Cai enterprises need to proactively seize opportunities and invest in upgrading facilities, machinery and equipment. Enterprises that already have a foundation in processing and production need to boldly invest more to increase product value."

“This is both a challenge and an opportunity for businesses, especially small businesses, to strengthen their connections and cooperation with each other, forming value chains, thereby enhancing competitiveness. The application of technology and software in production and business management will help optimize operations and meet increasingly high market standards,” Mr. Long added.

At the same time, the two-level local government is strongly transforming from a management role to a service and creation role. The solid foundation for this transformation is the four particularly important Resolutions of the Politburo: Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation; Resolution 59-NQ/TW on international integration in the new situation; Resolution 66-NQ/TW on innovation in law making and enforcement; and Resolution 68-NQ/TW on private economic development.

Enterprises with a foundation in processing and manufacturing need to boldly invest more to increase product value.

All these synergistic factors will help Lao Cai's business community to fully exploit local potential and take advantage of international trade connections. This spirit of synergy not only promotes breadth development - increasing scale and market share - but also promotes depth: improving product quality, innovating management, and strengthening value chain linkages, both regionally and internationally. The business community needs to seize the opportunity to join hands to bring the new Lao Cai province - rising up in the frontier, into a new era: an era of connection, strength and comprehensive development.
