Speaking at the opening of the discussion, Mr. Le Hong Liem, Head of the Liaison Committee of Former Cadres of the Southern Vietnam Youth Union, shared that the documents about the youth of the late lawyer Nguyen Huu Tho were quite modest, because he was a simple person, always kept a discreet lifestyle and rarely talked about himself. But that modesty further highlighted the great personality and great stature of the steadfast revolutionary soldier in the hearts of the nation.
Associate Professor, Dr. Huynh Thi Gam, former Head of the Ho Chi Minh Ideology Department, Regional Political Academy II (under the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics), also reviewed the life, revolutionary career and dedication of the late Lawyer - Acting President Nguyen Huu Tho to the country and people.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Huynh Thi Gam, Lawyer Nguyen Huu Tho is an excellent communist party member, a righteous lawyer, a talented and erudite intellectual, a great and enthusiastic patriot, dedicating his whole life to the country and the people. Lawyers are the flag of great solidarity, with high prestige in gathering and uniting all classes of people.
“With 15 years as Chairman of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam, lawyer Nguyen Huu Tho was the flag that called, gathered, and united all classes of people, the soul of the struggle movement and contributed to the resounding victories of the army and people of the South,” Ms. Huynh Thi Gam expressed.
Associate Professor, Dr. Huynh Thi Gam also shared that lawyer Nguyen Huu Tho is a great personality, has a noble life, integrity, a pure heart, is always loyal to the country, filial to the people, devoted to the country, for the people, loved and respected by the people. In particular, the lawyer always cares abouteducating and supporting young people.
At the seminar, delegates recalled memories and unforgettable impressions of the late lawyer Nguyen Huu Tho.
Revolutionary veteran Tran Van Manh, over 90 years old this year, former Captain of the Southern Liberation Youth Volunteers, former Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Veterans' Association, was moved when recalling the rare times he met and received direct instructions from lawyer Nguyen Huu Tho.
According to Mr. Tran Van Manh, lawyer Nguyen Huu Tho is a Southern intellectual, a great personality who devoted his whole life to the cause of national liberation.
Lawyer Nguyen Huu Tho, alias Ba Nghia, was born on July 10, 1910 in Long Phu village, Ben Luc district, Long An province (now Tay Ninh province). At the age of 11, his family sent him to France to study. In May 1933, law graduate Nguyen Huu Tho returned to Saigon to practice law. With his talent and integrity in defending justice, he became famous throughout the South when he was only 30 years old.
Since joining the patriotic movement of Saigon - Cho Lon intellectuals in 1947, lawyer Nguyen Huu Tho has spent nearly 4,000 days in prisons of French colonialists and American imperialists for his just struggle for justice, the right to life, and democracy for the people.
Lawyer Nguyen Huu Tho passed away on December 24, 1996 in Ho Chi Minh City. He was awarded the Gold Star Order and many other noble orders and medals by the Party and State.
