DTO - The administrative center of Dong Thap province has moved to My Tho, officials, civil servants and people hope to soon have means of transportation to the new workplace. To facilitate the travel of officials, civil servants, public employees and people, Dong Thap province has many solutions to call on businesses to open a Cao Lanh - My Tho bus route.

Hope the travel is more convenient

The new Dong Thap province came into operation on the basis of merging Tien Giang and Dong Thap provinces. The new Dong Thap province has 102 commune-level administrative units, including 82 communes and 20 wards. The provincial administrative center is located in My Tho.

From July 1, for the administrative sector, Dong Thap province has arranged all officials and civil servants at the level of department heads and above, along with 70% of the deputy department heads and specialists of the old Dong Thap province to work in My Tho, with nearly 610 people. In the near future, many officials and civil servants will continue to work in My Tho after their accommodation and workplaces are repaired and upgraded.

Because most of the cadres, civil servants and public employees have a place to live in Cao Lanh ward, when going to work in My Tho, many cadres and civil servants have to go back and forth frequently. Accordingly, there are people who go back to their home in Cao Lanh once a week, some people go back two or three times a week. There are also cases where due to family circumstances, they go back and forth almost every day.

Ms. NHN, residing in Cao Lanh Ward, said that since July 1, she and all her colleagues have moved to My Tho to work. The new working environment has always been supported and enthusiastically helped by colleagues; creating favorable conditions for accommodation or renting a house is also convenient. "What I and many other officials, workers and civil servants wish for is to soon have a bus or passenger car route from Cao Lanh to My Tho to facilitate commuting to work," Ms. NHN said.

It is known that most of the officials and civil servants of the former Dong Thap province who work in My Tho go to work by motorbike or bus, a few drive their own cars. However, the bus is not on the right route so they have to take a shuttle bus. The distance from the pick-up point to Cao Lanh ward takes about 3 - 3.5 hours.

Multiple travel solutions

It is known that, to facilitate the travel and living of officials, civil servants and employees at the new workplace (the new administrative center in My Tho), Dong Thap province has proposed many solutions. Accordingly, the province has planned the support cost including monthly transportation and accommodation, the support period is 2 years. This support level may change more or less after the Dong Thap Provincial People's Council approves the merger of the province. In addition, Dong Thap province has repeatedly called on passenger car and bus transport businesses to open the Cao Lanh - My Tho route.

Specifically, previously, Dong Thap province (old) called on passenger transport businesses to invest in plans to open bus routes to serve officials, civil servants and people traveling on the Cao Lanh - My Tho route.

Deputy Director of Dong Thap Province Department of Construction Nguyen Hong Thanh said: “In the past few days, we have called on businesses to invest in the Cao Lanh - My Tho bus route. After that, a business ran a trial bus from Cao Lanh to a transfer station near My Tho for a week to learn and evaluate the number of passengers. We worked directly with a bus transport business. During the working process, the business said that the bus route was difficult to implement due to low travel demand. This week, we will continue to work with other businesses. In addition, we are also calling on businesses to research and soon have a plan to operate a fixed-route bus from Cao Lanh to the new administrative center of Dong Thap province, located in My Tho ward.”

“With this route, we will try to have an early morning bus departing from Cao Lanh ward every day. In the afternoon, there will be a 5pm route from the old My Tho to Cao Lanh ward. The company will test the operation, based on the demand, there will be an assessment and further adjustments as appropriate,” said Mr. Nguyen Hong Thanh.

Recently, there is information that a business will open a fixed bus route from Cao Lanh ward to My Tho ward with a ticket price of 120,000 VND/passenger, delivering to administrative agencies.

According to the Department of Construction of Dong Thap province, recently, a passenger transport business contacted to complete registration procedures but it has not been official yet. The Department of Construction of Dong Thap province continues to call for more businesses to open a route from Cao Lanh ward to My Tho ward.

This shows that, in addition to accommodation, agencies and units of Dong Thap province always pay special attention to the travel of officials, civil servants and people between the old and new administrative centers of Dong Thap province. Although the two-level government has only been put into operation for a short time, the arrangement of travel and accommodation is still difficult, but the province has soon proposed solutions to facilitate the travel of officials and civil servants in the new area after the merger.
