Doctors give free medicine to poor women at Tan Hiep Medical Center

Early in the morning, Ms. Le Thi Hong, 42 years old, residing in Dinh Hoa commune, was present at the free mobile gynecological examination point organized by the Kien Giang Association for the Support of Poor Patients in coordination with the provincial Center for Disease Control at the Go Quao Medical Center. As the main breadwinner in the family, her business often makes her ignore unusual signs of her body. “I thought lower abdominal pain was normal, which woman doesn’t have it. Luckily, some women in the hamlet invited me, so I went for a free medical examination. The doctor diagnosed me with gynecological inflammation, prescribed medicine and gave me detailed instructions. If it weren’t for this examination, I would never have known I was sick,” Ms. Hong said.

Participating in free gynecological screening, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tu Em, residing in My Thuan commune, was discovered by a doctor to have abnormal signs. Through ultrasound and in-depth examination, the doctor diagnosed Ms. Tu Em with uterine fibroids. Immediately after that, the Kien Giang Association for Supporting Poor Patients guided her to complete the documents and procedures to receive support for surgery costs. A few months later, Ms. Tu Em had gynecological surgery at Kien Giang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. Currently, Ms. Tu Em's health is stable. "My family's circumstances are very difficult, the cost of surgery is high, I don't know how to manage. Thanks to the support of the aunts and uncles in the association and the doctors, I feel like I have been saved" - Ms. Tu Em expressed.

According to Vice President of the Kien Giang Association for the Support of Poor Patients, Le Minh Khoi, we understand that for many women, especially women in remote areas, going for gynecological examinations is very difficult, not because women do not care about their health, but because of difficult circumstances. Therefore, the association coordinates with dedicated doctors and nurses to organize free examinations and support surgeries for serious medical cases. The Kien Giang Association for the Support of Poor Patients continues to expand the scale of the free gynecological examination program for women in more difficult localities, with priority given to remote communes and ethnic minority areas. At the same time, the association promotes the mobilization of social resources, calling for the cooperation of organizations and individuals inside and outside the province to maintain long-term and sustainable activities.

The free gynecological screening program contributes to sharing and helping poor women receive health care, preserving their role as mothers and wives. At the same time, the program contributes to raising public awareness of reproductive health, improving the quality of life and protecting women's right to a healthy life.

The program of screening for gynecological diseases and free surgery has been maintained continuously for more than 20 years by the Kien Giang Association for the Support of Poor Patients in coordination with other units. In the first 6 months of 2025, the program organized screening and gynecological ultrasound for nearly 700 female workers and laborers in Thanh Loc Industrial Park, Tac Cau Fishing Port and women in Tan Hiep Commune, Go Quao Commune and neighboring communes. Through screening, 71 cases of cysts and fibroids were detected; doctors ordered surgery for 5 cases at Kien Giang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital and Kien Giang General Hospital.
