(Dan Tri) - From 2025, parents in Blaenau Gwent County (Wales, UK) who have not yet taught their children how to "sit on the potty" will be called to school by teachers to change their children's diapers themselves.

The rule was introduced to give nursery teachers more time to spend on classroom activities. Luisa Munro-Morris, head ofeducation in Blaenau Gwent, said that having to change nappies regularly was affecting the quality of teaching.

From 2025, only nursery students who are required to wear nappies for medical reasons will be allowed to have their nappies changed by teachers in Blaenau Gwent. This has been welcomed by nursery teachers in Blaenau Gwent, but some parents disagree.

Some other parents also expressed concern that if they live far away, it will take a long time to get to school to change their children's diapers, which could affect the children's health.

"Headteachers from several schools in Wales have reported an increase in the number of children starting school without basic skills, which is having a significant impact on the teaching and learning of teachers," said Laura Doel, head of the Welsh Teachers' Association.

Laura Doel said the Welsh Teachers' Association welcomed the Blaenau Gwent County Council's drastic move to support nursery teachers.

According to a survey conducted by the UK Children's Centre this year, about a third of children in the UK start nursery school without basic skills, such as potty training, stopping the use of pacifiers, or following and carrying out simple requests from teachers...
