Fruits, vegetables, and cool drinks attract customers
According to records at traditional markets in Hung Yen province, the atmosphere of buying and selling at vegetable and fruit stalls has been particularly bustling in recent days. Many traders said that purchasing power increased by 20-30% compared to normal days, focusing on vegetables and fruits that are cool, easy to prepare and good for health.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue, a trader at Tien Lu market, Hoang Hoa Tham commune, shared: On hot days, consumers prefer cool vegetables such as Malabar spinach, amaranth, Malabar spinach, squash, and squash... Due to the increased consumption, I have to wake up early to buy goods at the wholesale market to ensure that the vegetables are always fresh. The price is a bit higher, but customers still prefer them because everyone wants to eat cool foods to relieve the heat.
Besides green vegetables, fruits such as watermelon, dragon fruit, oranges, grapefruit, lemons, coconuts, etc. are also in high demand because they have high water content, sweet and refreshing taste, suitable for cooling down. Some stores also said that fresh coconuts and lemons are selling twice as well as in early summer, because many families use them to make cool drinks.
Not only vegetables and fruits, fresh foods such as shrimp, fish, clams, crabs are also preferred by many housewives. These ingredients are easy to process into sour soup, steamed, boiled dishes... not only delicious but also help cool the body.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lam, a seafood trader at the market in Hung Ha commune, said: In the summer, customers often buy tilapia, clams, and field crabs to cook light, easy-to-eat dishes such as sour soup and steamed clams. The main source of goods is from households in the province, so they are always guaranteed to be fresh. Prices remain stable to meet the high demand of the people.
In addition, drinks such as cool water, tea, jelly, and fruit juice have also become popular choices during the hot days. In many supermarkets, convenience stores, or online restaurants, the consumption of summer drinks has increased sharply.
Mr. Bui Ba Duc, the owner of a beverage shop in Pho Hien Ward, shared: My shop sells fruit teas and juices. During hot days, revenue nearly doubles. On average, I sell about 200-300 cups of tea per day, with customers mainly being students, office workers and local residents.
Be careful in choosing and preserving food in hot weather
Hot weather not only increases the demand for cool foods but also places high demands on food safety. Health experts warn that hot weather is a favorable condition for bacteria to grow rapidly, making food spoil easily, potentially causing poisoning if not properly preserved and processed.
The provincial health sector recommends that people should buy food from reputable places with clear origins. In particular, they should avoid buying products that are crushed, have signs of damage or have strange odors. Vegetables and fruits should be washed thoroughly and soaked in diluted salt water before use.
For fresh foods such as meat and fish, they should be processed immediately after purchase or stored in the freezer. Cooked foods that are not consumed immediately should be covered, stored properly and should be consumed within the day. Absolutely do not reuse food that has been left overnight at room temperature.
In the summer, digestive diseases such as diarrhea and food poisoning tend to increase. Therefore, people should not abuse cold water or sugary drinks, and should limit leaving food outdoors for too long. In case of signs of poisoning such as abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, etc., go to the nearest medical facility for timely treatment.
Increasing the use of cooling foods is an inevitable need on hot days. However, to ensure health, each person needs to proactively learn how to choose clean foods, with clear origins, preserve them properly and comply with food hygiene and safety for daily use.
