Singer Kieu Nga and Le Tuan
Many people thought that Le Tuan and Kieu Nga did not know each other, but in fact they knew each other and sang together since Kieu Nga was still in Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City.
Kieu Nga in Le Tuan's memory
In early 1983, Le Tuan was the soloist of the Thanh Nien Cultural House art troupe when he was invited to sing the main vocal of the Phuong Nam band - at this time, along with the female band Bach Duong, they were the two lucky bands sponsored by the motorbike company at that time.
"That's why the two bands went to many shows, all of them were city-level programs, not district-level like most bands at that time. Shortly after singers Le Hang and Le Mai left Phuong Nam band, singer Kim Oanh (sister of singer Kim Yen) and Kieu Nga (younger sister of Elvis Phuong) joined to sing. Phuong Nam band practiced on the first floor of Lam Son Square street, opposite Eden passage. Because the practice location was right in the center, Le Tuan diligently went to practice because he liked to hold the microphone and sing with the band playing through the speakers, almost as if they were performing for real" - singer Le Tuan said.
He also did not forget that it was the period when, thanks to diligent practice, he quickly improved both his singing voice and performing style, moving towards building a professional launching pad for his career.
Singer Le Tuan is a singer who has been voted by readers for many consecutive years as the favorite singer of the Most Favorite Artist of the Year Poll - the predecessor of today's Mai Vang Award.
Kieu Nga disappears and then appears brilliantly
Singer Le Tuan said that after the incident, there was no longer a sponsor, both Phuong Nam and Bach Duong bands were no longer subsidized, so Kieu Nga returned to Phuong Nam band. "After a few performances, I didn't see her anymore, maybe because she didn't meet the conditions she set, so she stopped performing with Phuong Nam.
In fact, from 1983 onwards, Vietnamese music was on the rise with many hot female stars such as Ngoc Bich, Nha Phuong, Bao Yen, Cam Van, Hoang Cuc... performing shows nonstop, not the soft and lyrical French music. Because French music was in decline due to strong American music, stars singing French music gradually performed fewer shows. Furthermore, singer Kieu Nga was a new singer, although everyone knew she was Elvis Phuong's younger sister, she could not compete with the stars of that time.
This period was also when Le Tuan started to become famous and Kieu Nga was no longer mentioned. In 1986, when Le Tuan had become an A-list star, he heard the very popular cassette tape "Cali Summer Youth Music" at coffee shops with new singers: Ngoc Lan, Trung Hanh, Kim Ngan, Thuy Vi and Kieu Nga.
Through the live tape recording of the stage, there was cheering and applause from the Cali audience. I was happy for Kieu Nga like a fish in water and starting to make a name for herself" – singer Le Tuan wrote.
Singer Kieu Nga and Le Tuan
Her expertise in French music helped singer Kieu Nga become a star from then on and for many years to come. Ngoc Lan, Kieu Nga and Trung Hanh are three young California – American singers who are popular in the Saigon – Ho Chi Minh City CD market.
Singer Kieu Nga has a youthful doll voice and a clear, elegant pronunciation. When she sings in French, I think she is a star in the top Vietnamese singers who sang French music best in the 1980s, including: Thanh Lan, Elvis Phuong, Khanh Ha, Minh Xuan, Minh Phuc, Anh Tu, Le Thu...
Kieu Nga reunites with Le Tuan
On the occasion of Lunar New Year 1997, the Saigon Light Music Troupe successfully organized at Phan Dinh Phung covered stadium the music program "Spring of Love" for the first time with Vietnamese stars: People's Artist Bach Tuyet, singer Le Tuan performing with 3 overseas stars: Phuong Mai, Kieu Nga, Ngoc Anh. There were also performances by the Saigon Light Music Troupe singers participating.
The show lasted 3 hours and had 4 shows, all with full tickets, at the black market price of 500,000 VND/ticket, which at that time was equal to half a month's salary of a worker in Ho Chi Minh City. Thanks to those 4 shows, Le Tuan had the opportunity to meet singer Kieu Nga again to take a souvenir photo of that meeting.
"For the past few days, I have been following and knowing that Kieu Nga's health is very weak and today she has passed away , leaving behind the condolences of audiences and colleagues everywhere.
To me, Kieu Nga's singing contains the girl's absent-mindedness when facing love and the ever-changing world. In my memory, the singer Kieu Nga's voice keeps ringing out, whispering and confiding in the beginning of the song:
"The song flies over the wistful streets
Afternoon swinging painful steps..."
Farewell singer Kieu Nga.
