Dong Dau Bridge is degraded, people are worried

(Baohatinh.vn) - After nearly 40 years of use, Dong Dau bridge (Duc Quang commune, Ha Tinh) has seriously degraded, causing people to worry when traveling across the bridge.

Every day, hundreds of people and vehicles still live in fear when traveling across Dong Dau Bridge, spanning the La River branch, in Quang Loc village, Duc Quang commune (new). This bridge connects villages in Quang Vinh commune (old) with La Giang dike, leading to the center of Duc Quang commune (new) and surrounding areas.

Dong Dau Bridge was built around 1987-1988 with the aim of serving the travel and transportation of agricultural products of the people in the villages outside La Giang dike. At that time, the bridge was considered a great joy for hundreds of households because it helped shorten the travel distance, connecting conveniently with production areas and central markets.

However, after nearly 40 years of use, the bridge has now become a source of concern for the people. The railing system has rotted, many places are broken and crooked; the bridge is narrow. Some sections even have no railings, posing a high risk of accidents, especially for students, the elderly or in rainy, foggy or night conditions.

In addition to the damaged railing system, Dong Dau Bridge also lacks lighting, making it extremely dangerous to travel at night. Not only that, during the rainy season, the water rises close to the bridge, increasing the risk of accidents, especially for those unfamiliar with the road.

Mr. Tran Duc Thach (residing in Tien Hoa village, Duc Quang commune) shared: “Every time I cross the bridge, I have to be very careful, especially at night. There have been cases where motorcyclists, because they could not see the edge of the bridge clearly, crashed into the broken railing, luckily they did not fall into the river.”

Many sections of the Dong Dau bridge’s railings have been damaged or even completely lost, creating dangerous gaps. The remaining areas are also in a state of serious disrepair, with just a slight impact causing the peeling concrete to fall off at any time.

Many local residents also expressed concern about the serious deterioration of this bridge. Mr. Nguyen Tien Dat (residing in Thuong Tu village, Duc Quang commune) suggested: "We hope that the authorities will soon invest in repairs so that people can travel with peace of mind, develop production, and stabilize their lives."

Mr. Hoang Xuan Hung - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Duc Quang Commune said: "The locality shares the concerns of the people when crossing Dong Dau Bridge. Currently, the commune is reviewing and synthesizing the situation to have a basis for making recommendations to higher levels in the coming time."
