Korabelka are the reigning VTV Cup champions. Last year, they defeated the Vietnamese women's national volleyball team to win the title. Their strength is undeniable and they are highly rated for a place in the final.
Meanwhile, the Vietnam U21 women's volleyball team lost to Chinese Taipei and Thailand U21. However, against Korabelka, they had an unexpectedly excellent performance.
The Russian team with their tall, experienced and technically superior athletes won after 3 sets with the scores of 25-19, 25-19, 25-14. But in all 3 sets, they repeatedly encountered fierce resistance from the young Vietnamese athletes.
In particular, the U21 Vietnam blockers had an effective working day, working at full capacity. Blocker Nguyen Phuong Quynh showed good reading ability, quick reaction to make accurate blockers.
In just set 1, Phuong Quynh and her teammates successfully blocked Korabelka's attacks at least 5 times.
In sets 2 and 3, the U21 Vietnamese women's volleyball team continued to have similar moves. Meanwhile, in the attack phase, captain Dang Thi Hong was still the one who shouldered the scoring role.
However, the weakness in the first step has not been overcome, causing U21 Vietnam to face difficulties at many times. Their inferior physique and experience also prevented them from catching up despite playing with great effort.
Losing this match, coach Nguyen Trong Linh's team ended the group stage with 3 losses, ranking last in group B. In the quarterfinals, they will meet the top team in group A, most likely the Vietnam women's national volleyball team.
