Today (July 4), the U22 Vietnam team will have a return friendly match with U22 Taiwan in Ba Ria - Vung Tau after winning 5-0 in the first friendly match also taking place here.

Valuable friendly match

After more than a year working in Vietnam, this is the first time Mr. Kim has led the Vietnam U22 team to prepare for the three upcoming major tournaments. Previously, because he had to lead the Vietnam team, Mr. Kim had handed over the position of head coach of the Vietnam U22 team to assistant Dinh Hong Vinh.

Gathering in Ba Ria - Vung Tau from June 27, but until July 2, the U22 Vietnam team only had 35 players due to some being busy competing in the final of the 2024 - 2025 National Cup. However, the late players of the two clubs Cong An Ha Noi and Song Lam Nghe An could not go to the training ground or compete in the return friendly match with U22 Taiwan.

Wanting to test personnel and tactics, coach Kim Sang Sik requested that both friendly matches be held without spectators or media. And the 5-0 victory in the first friendly match against U22 Taiwan made Mr. Kim quite satisfied, as the first tests gave quite good results. Khuat Van Khang did not play due to not being in good physical condition, Phi Hoang made his mark on the left wing with the opening goal in the 9th minute.

On the right wing, "Best Young Player of V-League 2024 - 2025" Le Van Thuan also performed impressively and scored 1 goal in the second half. The remaining three goals were scored by key players such as Van Truong, Quoc Viet and Viktor Le.

Kim's remarkable test

Under the leadership of acting head coach Dinh Hong Vinh, U22 Vietnam has had two major international tournaments to compete in, CFA Team China 2024 and 2025. From here, the team's framework gradually took shape, and now it's time for coach Kim Sang Sik to upgrade the squad.

The good news is that U22 Vietnam has a fairly even squad in all three lines. But that makes Mr. Kim have to think hard, especially in the midfield when there are many good players. In the friendly match with U22 Taiwan, he gave the captain's armband to two central midfielders in the two halves.

In the first half, Van Truong wore the captain's armband and played with Thai Son in the middle of the field. In the second half, Viktor Le played with Xuan Bac. And both captains showed their ability to lead the game very well, which was shown through the game on the field.

Viktor Le's quick adaptation to the new position assigned by Mr. Kim is a highlight. Under the guidance of acting head coach Dinh Hong Vinh, Viktor Le plays well in the left forward position. The captain's armband in the new role shows the expectations that coach Kim Sang Sik has for Viktor Le.

Notably, central midfielder Dinh Xuan Tien has not played yet and will be tested by Mr. Kim in the return friendly match with U22 Taiwan. The same goes for the attack line with Dinh Bac, Bui Alex or new recruit Ngoc My.
