The Vietnam U22 team has been training in Ba Ria - Vung Tau since June 27 to prepare for the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, the qualifying round of Group C of the 2026 Asian U23 Championship and the 33rd SEA Games.
According to plan, the Vietnam U22 team will have two closed friendly matches with the Taiwan U22 team in Ba Ria - Vung Tau on July 2 and 4.
Coach Kim Sang Sik wants to take advantage of these two matches to test and perfect the squad for the Vietnam U22 team before entering the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship in Indonesia in July. Meanwhile, Taiwan U22 is also preparing for the qualifying round of Group A of the 2026 Asian U23 Championship in Jordan in September.
In the third training session since the beginning of the year and the first time directly leading the Vietnam U22 team, coach Kim Sang Sik summoned 35 players, much more than the two training sessions in March (27 players) and May (26 players).
In addition to the 8 players who contributed to the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, the Vietnam U22 team also has the presence of two overseas Vietnamese players Viktor Le (Hong Linh Ha Tinh ) and Bui Alex (Bohemians Praha 1905 B team, Czech Republic). This is the third time midfielder Viktor Le has been present, and for Bui Alex, it is the second time.
It is expected that in the training session this afternoon (June 30), Coach Kim Sang Sik will have full strength after 7 players from two clubs, Song Lam Nghe An and Cong An Ha Noi, joined.
Goalkeepers Cao Van Binh, Ho Van Cuong, Nguyen Quang Vinh, Dinh Xuan Tien, Le Dinh Long Vu (Song Lam Nghe An), Pham Minh Phuc and Nguyen Dinh Bac (Cong An Ha Noi) just played in the final match of the 2024-2025 National Cup on the evening of June 29 in Vinh.
The 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship will take place from July 15 to 31 in Indonesia with the participation of 10 teams, divided into 3 groups. The teams will compete in a round-robin to calculate points, selecting the 3 group winners and 1 second-place team with the best results to enter the semi-finals.
The U22 Vietnam team is in Group B and will meet Laos (July 19) and Cambodia (July 22). In this tournament, the U22 Vietnam team has won the championship twice in a row in 2022 and 2023.
