In recent years, Southeast Asian football has been hot on the naturalization story. The Indonesian and then Malaysian teams have grown strongly thanks to the massive naturalization policy.

Many Southeast Asian newspapers predicted that the Vietnamese team would naturalize many players to avenge their defeats against Indonesia and Malaysia. However, Malaysian coach Raja Isa Raja Akram Shah gave a surprising opinion.
He believes that the Vietnamese or Malaysian teams cannot become a big threat to Indonesia, even if they add more naturalized stars.
This coach said: "If you think that Vietnam or Malaysia can become competitors with Indonesia, I think it is possible. But they are not a serious threat to the Indonesian team.
Because now, the Vietnamese and Malaysian teams have just started the naturalization process, while Indonesia has run too far. We just need to see who will finish first. They will have a hard time catching up with the Indonesian team.
The foundation of the Indonesian national team is quite solid. All parties involved in football are consistent with the naturalization policy. When the naturalization program of Malaysia and Vietnam starts, Indonesia will certainly not stop.

Mr. Raja Isa Raja Akram Shah also assessed that the Indonesian team still has a big advantage over the Vietnamese and Malaysian teams because there is a large number of citizens of Indonesian origin distributed all over the world .
“Indonesia’s advantage is the large number of people of Indonesian descent who have migrated to other countries. This creates an opportunity for Indonesia to have a very rich source of naturalized players. The Indonesian Football Association has a large team to search for players with origins all over the world,” he added.
Recently, the President of the Vietnam Football Federation, Tran Quoc Tuan, affirmed that Vietnamese football will not follow the path of massively naturalizing players to trade off immediate achievements.
