Northern region to experience widespread thunderstorms, ending heat wave

(Chinhphu.vn) - According to the meteorological agency, from July 10, the heat in the Northern region will gradually decrease. From July 10-12, the Northern provinces will have widespread moderate and heavy rains.

From July 10 onwards, the temperature in the Northeast region tends to decrease slightly.

According to the forecast from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today (July 9), the Northeast region and the West of Phu Tho province recorded high temperatures ranging from 35 to 37 degrees Celsius, and some places may even exceed this threshold. The Northwest region experienced localized heat waves, with temperatures also above 35 degrees Celsius. The lowest humidity during the day ranged from 55 to 60%.

The hot weather also covered the area from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang , the eastern part of the strip of land from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak and the whole province of Khanh Hoa, lasting for two days on July 9 and 10. The common temperature here is around 35-37 degrees Celsius, higher in some places. Humidity in these areas is only 50-55%.

From July 10 onwards, temperatures in the Northeast and West of Phu Tho will tend to decrease slightly. In the Central region, the current heat wave will begin to cool down from July 11.

Risk of heavy rain, beware of flash floods and landslides

From tonight (July 9) to tomorrow (July 10), the mountainous and midland areas of the North are forecast to have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, with some places experiencing very heavy rain. The average rainfall ranges from 30-70mm, locally exceeding 150mm. There is a risk of heavy rain in a short period of time (over 100mm in 3 hours).

In the Central Highlands and the South, scattered showers appeared in the late afternoon, with rainfall ranging from 10-30mm, with some places experiencing over 60mm.

In the mountainous and midland areas of the North from the night of July 9 to July 10, there is forecast to be moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms; locally very heavy rain with common rainfall from 30 - 70mm, some places over 150mm.

Warning of risk of heavy rain with rainfall greater than 100mm within 3 hours.

From the evening and night of July 10 to July 12, the Northern region is likely to experience moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with common rainfall from 70 - 150mm, some places over 300mm.

From July 13, heavy rain in the Northern region is likely to gradually decrease.

In the Central Highlands and the South, in the late afternoon and evening of July 9, scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast, with some places experiencing heavy rain with rainfall ranging from 10 to 30mm, and in some places over 60mm. Thunderstorms are likely to bring tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warns that the risk of natural disasters caused by heavy rain, tornadoes, lightning, and hail is level 1.

Heavy rain can cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban and industrial areas; flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes.
