However, many experts believe that the cooperation of many agencies and related units is needed to maintain the long-term elimination of counterfeit and poor quality goods, especially on online channels.
Retailers select goods
In recent days, although the number of visitors has been quite limited, Ms. Trinh Thi Hien (a trader in An Dong market, Ho Chi Minh City) said that recently she has only prioritized importing cosmetic products such as shampoo and shower gel with brands and clear origins from large enterprises to avoid risks when authorities inspect and to give consumers more peace of mind.
"In the past, the situation of floating goods business was more common than now because many units offered very low prices, high discounts, so some small traders were greedy for profits and imported without much concern about quality. Now seeing the strict inspection, both wholesalers and retailers are much more cautious," said Ms. Hien.
Similarly, doing business for decades at Ben Thanh market, Mr. Ly Dai Lam, owner of Anh Hai Curry stall, affirmed that although he sells hundreds of products, wholesale and retail, the origin of the input is now more important than before, so the unit is more confident in doing business.
"Although it is more difficult and the import price is higher, we still prioritize importing spices from large units to easily get invoices and documents of origin. Currently, we cannot say that importing goods from farmers does not have an origin. We have to do it more carefully. This is necessary to create a healthy and sustainable business environment," Mr. Lam assessed.
With a scale of about 515 stalls, a representative of the Bau Cat market management board (Tan Binh) said that recently the market has continuously promoted to traders that they must import goods with clear origin and source, so most sellers have been more cautious in the import process, prioritizing the selection of products with origin and quality certification.
"Although they are retail, small traders are gradually changing, not doing business as easily as before, especially food and cosmetics that are not sourced from unknown sources" - said a representative of the market management board.
Similarly, in a place specializing in wholesale with a large scale of diverse products, many sellers at Binh Tay market have become more conscious in importing goods. Ms. N., a small trader here, affirmed that in the past, sellers of clothes, fashion items, watches, glasses... often paid little attention to the origin, even importing fake goods, but now it is different, everyone demands documents and invoices. In case of goods of unknown origin, counterfeit goods, they proactively stop selling.
Representatives of the management boards of many traditional markets in Ho Chi Minh City confirmed that many stalls are still closed due to fear of inspection, but through propaganda, in general, traders are much more aware of the origin of input goods, the situation of fake and poor quality goods, "buying scrap goods, selling at rosewood prices" has decreased a lot compared to before.
However, due to the nature of small businesses, many sellers have difficulty with old batches of goods of unknown origin. In addition, most of the fashion at the market is cheap and purchased from small retail establishments, so finding input documents is relatively difficult.

Good sales, many businesses increase investment
Ms. Ly Hua Thi Lan Phuong, owner of the Chan Phuong brand - bird's nest and palm nectar ( An Giang ), said that the quality of bird's nest and jarred bird's nest products on the market is quite chaotic, "all kinds of good and bad", causing the unit, although it has been able to export, to not be confident in promoting strongly for many years for fear of not being able to compete with cheap, poor quality products flooding the market.
This makes the unit only prioritize bringing into the middle and high-end sales channels with a limited scale. In addition, imported bird's nests are currently 3 times more than domestic sources, but the loose quality control makes it difficult for many units.
"The government's crackdown on poor quality goods, although in the short term consumers are hesitant to buy because of confusion, in the long term it will significantly reduce fake and poor quality goods, thereby benefiting bird's nest farmers and making production enterprises feel more secure in their investments," Ms. Phuong commented.
Similarly, according to a representative of Can Gio Island Bird's Nest Company (HCMC), when the market still has many low-quality products and falsely advertised products, "real" businesses still face difficulties, especially in the price war.
"Reducing counterfeit and poor quality goods is an opportunity for us to confidently introduce our products widely on distribution systems and e-commerce platforms in the near future," said a company representative.
As a business struggling to fight against counterfeit goods because there are too many counterfeit goods and counterfeiters are reckless, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ty - CEO of Non Son Company Limited - said that in the past, Non Son had to fight against counterfeit goods by itself. With the new policy, law enforcement agencies proactively coordinate with businesses, and when counterfeiting establishments are found, they immediately contact businesses to verify and handle violations.
"Previously, due to the unhealthy market, legitimate businesses were often hesitant to invest when part of the profits went to those who made counterfeit goods. But now we are excited and confident to expand our investment in quality and build our brand to expand the market, and consumers are also more secure when buying quality products," said Mr. Ty.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Thai - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Thai Minh Pharmaceuticals - said that this is a "golden" period for honest businesses to affirm their position. The reason is that pharmacies that used to import smuggled goods are now more cautious. "Some even come back to us to get goods with invoices and clear documents. The number of pharmacies importing goods is increasing, and more products are displayed without the need for promotions."
Explaining why sales have not increased, Mr. Thai said, "Eroded trust cannot be rebuilt overnight. But we are patient. When the market is truly clean, brands that maintain standards will rise."
Need many partners, don't disregard cheap prices
Mr. Nguyen Dang Hien, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Food and Foodstuff Association, added: not only on online channels and e-commerce platforms, but also in reality, many stores and grocery stores around schools and hospitals sell a lot of confectionery, drinks, and even health care products that "copy" the brands, designs, and labels of large enterprises...
But for profit, distributors still do business, so consumers can easily access these products if they do not have the knowledge to distinguish. Therefore, it is necessary that sellers are more self-aware in business, do not recklessly import cheap, poor quality goods.
From the perspective of e-commerce platforms, in a recent conversation with Tuoi Tre, Mr. Nguyen Lam Thanh, representative of TikTok Vietnam, affirmed that the unit is and will further tighten the standards for goods on the floor by requiring more documents and related procedures from manufacturers and sellers. At the same time, it will strongly remove brands and units that violate the law, even calling on the authorities to handle it. In addition, it will increase training and propaganda about legal regulations to sellers and manufacturers.
According to Mr. Thanh, in fact, TikTok has recently removed a large number of sellers and products that violate the law. At the same time, through measurements over the past 2 months, when the crackdown on counterfeit and poor quality goods was intensified, sales of quality products have also increased significantly.
Focus on rural sales channels
Many experts emphasize that the campaign to "fight" counterfeit, fake, and poor quality goods is being implemented well, but it is necessary to pay more attention to cheap sales channels, especially supplying goods to rural areas, to prevent unsold goods from being smuggled into rural areas for consumption.
Mr. Nguyen Dang Hien, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Food and Foodstuff Association, said that the Government’s determination to fight against counterfeit and fake goods will be a great opportunity for genuine manufacturers to bring good products to consumers and expand the market. At the same time, consumers will also benefit.
By eliminating substandard products, genuine products will have more opportunities to enter distribution channels, especially in rural areas. In addition, small-scale manufacturers must also reshape their business practices and business ethics.
"This is a great opportunity to crack down on counterfeit goods, especially products that are essential to people's lives such as food, functional foods, medicines, health care products...", Mr. Hien said.

Help keep the standard instead of chasing cheap prices
According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Thai, one of the factors that makes counterfeit goods "survive" is the lower selling price. Mr. Thai explained: counterfeit manufacturers often do not invest in research, do not have testing costs, and benefit from the reputation of the original brand, so it is easy to offer more competitive prices. Some businesses even "cut" active ingredients to lower costs, causing serious damage to manufacturers who comply with regulations.
"For example, a milk factory uses only 15 ingredients instead of the 35 as announced, thereby creating a poor quality product but still selling it on the market. In this industry, consumers are not skilled enough to distinguish quality. They are easily attracted to cheap prices without knowing that they are trading their health," he said.
According to Mr. Thai, the strong fight against counterfeit, fake and poor quality goods is helping well-run businesses have the opportunity to rise up, constantly improve the quality of products both internally and externally, and have more opportunities to expand their customer reach and gain new customer files.
Low quality goods are gradually becoming obsolete on online channels?
After a long period of explosive sales on TikTok Shop, the wave of TikTokers with millions of followers suddenly removing their shopping carts from their personal channels is showing a clear signal: the era of "livestreaming to make money" is gradually coming to an end, giving way to demands for responsibility, transparency and real product quality.
Recently attracting attention is the case of Doan Di Bang, who also removed all promotional products on her channel after the business her husband legally represented was prosecuted for being involved in goods that violated quality.
The situation is more serious with the case of the Hai Sen Family channel, when both the channel owner and the company director were arrested for selling fake food. The related platforms and sales website of this channel have also been locked.
A series of big names such as Pham Thoai, Long Chun, Hang Du Muc, Vo Ha Linh... also temporarily withdrew from the "race" after scandals related to dumping, cheap bird's nest products or suspicions of non-transparent charity.
* Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hoa (Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City Business Association):
Hope the State continues to maintain the raid activities
The increased crackdown on counterfeit and poor quality goods has made the business community excited because there is a positive business environment, many businesses feel more secure to invest in production and trade, and sales will also be better.
I hope the State will continue to maintain this crackdown, all stages from licensing production, trade... must also be tightened. In addition to the State, manufacturers, distribution systems, e-commerce platforms... must also join in, "if it is gold, then perseverance will continue to be gold", so priority should be given to connecting with proper units, goods must ensure commercial quality criteria before being put on the floor.
Programs launched by many departments and agencies such as the Blue Tick of Responsibility are also solutions to accompany the Government in cracking down on counterfeit and poor quality goods and purifying the market. The important thing is that the whole society must work together and do it long-term, without interruption, in order to thoroughly handle the root cause.
