Ho Thi Mai has a particularly difficult family situation, she lost her father at a young age. Because of the burden of making a living, many times both her family and Mai thought of letting her drop out of school to do odd jobs to help the family economy . Understanding Mai's dream and situation, in 2016, Huong Phung Border Guard Station, Border Guard (Border Guard) of Quang Tri province (now the Border Guard Command of Quang Tri province) adopted Mai. Since then, every month, the station has supported her with funds and school supplies, books to reduce the burden of Mai's education on her family, and at the same time encouraged her family to create conditions for Mai to continue studying. Thanks to the support and encouragement of the Border Guard officers, Mai has been confident and has made progress in her studies. Mai has completed her high school graduation exam and continues to nurture her dream of continuing her studies to gain knowledge to brighten her future.

Huong Phung is a poor border commune of Quang Tri province. Due to the difficult life, combined with the backward thinking, many families do not pay attention to sending their children to school, even forcing them to drop out of school to stay home and help their families. In order to change the awareness of the people and "nurture knowledge", helping students have a good future, in recent times, officers and soldiers of Huong Phung Border Guard Station have actively participated in the work of encouraging learning, accompanying the school and teachers in propaganda and mobilizing students to go to school. For poor and studious students, the Party Committee and the command of the station regularly pay attention and provide timely support to foster their will and spirit of learning. Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Bang, Deputy Political Commissar of Huong Phung Border Guard Station, said: Effectively implementing the program "Helping children go to school - Adopted children of the border guard station", the station currently adopts 2 children and supports 8 children, including 1 Laotian child. In the period of 2023-2025, the unit coordinated with schools to mobilize 6 students with difficult circumstances or those who had been absent from school for a long time to return to school; at the same time, mobilized funds and presented savings books worth nearly 150 million VND to students with difficult circumstances.

In addition to regular support, on holidays and Tet, Huong Phung Border Guard Station also mobilizes and coordinates with organizations and individuals to accompany the local education promotion work. Typically: In the program "Spring Border Guard, Warming the Hearts of the Villagers" in 2025, the unit coordinated to present 20 gifts to 20 students in the program "Helping Children Go to School - Adopted Children of Border Guard Station"; inviting students who are adopted children of Border Guard Station to celebrate Tet with officers and soldiers of the unit. In addition, the unit also effectively organizes the model "Border Lesson", aimingto educate , build national pride, self-esteem, and spread love for the homeland and country to students and people in the area.
