According to European press, Diogo Jota unfortunately passed away in a traffic accident in Zamora (Spain). The incident happened at 0:30 (local time) on the A52 highway.
At the time of the incident, Jota's younger brother, Andre, who is also a professional footballer, was in the car. According to witnesses, Jota's Lamborghini lost control and went off the road before bursting into flames. The victims in the car did not survive.
Sadly, the striker has only been married to his longtime girlfriend Rute Cardoso for 10 days. The couple previously had 3 children. To celebrate the special day, the couple posted their wedding photos on social media with the caption: "Forever together".

This has left people even more saddened and sending their condolences to Jota's family. "I don't know what to say, this is so shocking. Sending prayers to your family," wrote user @fasiemario on Instagram. Another account named @levelupid simply wrote: "Rest in peace!".
Diogo Jota was born on December 4, 1996, joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton for a fee of 44.7 million euros. He played 182 matches for the "Red Brigade", scored 65 goals and created 26 assists. He also won three titles with Liverpool: Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup.
For the Portuguese national team, he has made 49 appearances and scored 14 goals. Jota also won the UEFA Nations Cup twice with Cristiano Ronaldo in the 2018-2019 and 2024-2025 seasons.
