Recently, the world's leading prestigious travel magazine Travel + Leisure announced the Asia- Pacific Luxury Travel Awards 2025. This is Travel + Leisure's annual award, honoring outstanding luxury destinations in the region considered to have the fastest tourism growth rate in the world.
Kem Beach - one of the magnets attracting visitors to Phu Quoc, is considered by tourists as "paradise".
In the category of the region's most wonderful islands, Phu Quoc is the only representative of Vietnam to be named, ranking 3rd in the top 10, after Bali (Indonesia) and Koh Samui (Thailand) - 2 names that are very familiar to international tourists.
Two consecutive years of being honored in global rankings make Phu Quoc difficult to be considered a "rising star" on the regional tourism map, but has truly become a world -class destination: a place where, once set foot, visitors can find everything for a perfect vacation.
The Sun Paradise Land ecosystem in the South of Phu Quoc Island was formed in the past 2 years, helping visitors experience record-breaking works. These include the world's longest 3-wire cable car to Hon Thom Island, the Kiss Bridge - Vietnam's new iconic tourism work with the only "no-touch" design in the world - once honored by CNN, or the Guinness World Record-winning Kiss of the Sea multimedia show...
With the appearance of JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay in 2016 - the island's pioneering 5-star resort - after only 10 years, the island has about 45 5-star resorts in operation, operated by leading international brands such as Marriott, Hilton, Accor, Rosewood... This landing has changed the appearance of the island, from an unknown place to a luxury island that wealthy guests want to visit.
Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Dinh Thien, former Director of the Vietnam Economic Institute, commented: Phu Quoc's frequency of receiving awards and titles is unmatched anywhere else.
“That confirms the strength and level of Phu Quoc, as well as the country's determination to help Phu Quoc rise in the global competition, and this competition is to rise to the top very quickly, not just to rise step by step,” said Mr. Thien.
On July 1, 2025, Phu Quoc was upgraded to become a special economic zone under An Giang province - an important turning point that will take the island to a new level. The special zone applies breakthrough mechanisms and policies, removing common administrative barriers, helping projects to be implemented quickly, transparently, at low cost and with higher efficiency.
Not only that, the once pristine island has now become the third destination of Vietnam to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum in 2027.
Most notable is the expansion project of Phu Quoc International Airport, the gateway to the world to the Pearl Island, with a total investment of VND22,000 billion. A separate VIP terminal will be built, with the highest standards for high-ranking leaders, heads of state and important diplomatic events. Along with that, Sun PhuQuoc Airways will also accompany APEC 2027, ensuring convenient and classy connections for international delegations.
The expanded airport and Sun PhuQuoc Airways will be closely connected with Phu Quoc's existing tourism - resort - entertainment ecosystem, creating a closed chain of experiences.
The island is also preparing to welcome a series of "super luxury" resort brands to Hon Thom Island, with "flagship" hotels such as The Luxury Collection Hon Thom, Rixos Phu Quoc, Ritz Carlton Reserve Hon Thom... promising to attract the world's richest tourists. Notably, The Luxury Collection is located in the Aspiration Tower - expected to become the world's second sail building.
These new opportunities will not only make Phu Quoc a world-class tourism and economic center, but also bring sustainable value to tourists seeking high-class experiences and to investors anticipating growth potential. Phu Quoc is gradually realizing its vision of becoming one of the world's top destinations to visit, live and invest in.
