The event marks the beginning of a series of activities promoting technology application initiatives to protect the Vietnamese coffee industry from the increasingly serious impacts of climate change.
The coffee industry is currently one of the economic pillars of Vietnam, providing livelihoods for more than 2.6 million farmers. However, extreme weather events such as droughts and floods, along with erratic fluctuations in temperature and rainfall have been seriously affecting coffee productivity, quality as well as the lives of farmers.
Faced with this situation, the competition is expected to find creative, practical and sustainable solutions, contributing to improving the adaptability of the Vietnamese coffee industry to increasingly harsh climatic conditions.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Le Duc Niem, Vice Rector of Tay Nguyen University and Head of the Organizing Committee of the competition, said: Vietnam has great potential in the field of innovation. We hope that through this competition, we will arouse and spread the spirit of creativity in the community, especially encouraging the participation of small and medium enterprises, cooperatives, women, youth, ethnic minorities and disadvantaged groups.
The competition not only focuses on climate change adaptation, but also emphasizes innovation, originality, replicability and collaboration in the design and implementation of solutions.
Finalists will have the opportunity to present their ideas to a jury of leading experts in the fields of agriculture , climate, technology and sustainable development. Outstanding solutions will be awarded cash prizes, support for pilot implementation as well as connections with investors.
The competition was officially launched by Tay Nguyen University and the Coffee Innovation Cluster and will accept applications from July 2 to September 10, 2025. Detailed information and registration instructions are posted on the Tay Nguyen University website/or contact Ms. Thanh Ha at 0979.178.998.
The Coffee Innovation Cluster is a collaborative initiative between the Australian National Research Council (CSIRO) and Tay Nguyen University, implemented under the Aus4Innovation Program funded by the Australian Government . The initiative aims to promote connectivity and collaboration between researchers, managers, businesses and farmers.
