The 2025-2026 public high school entrance exam for non-specialized high schools in Hanoi has more than 103,000 candidates taking the exam. This is the first exam organized under the 2018 GeneralEducation Program, with an important orientation of assessing the learners' abilities and qualities.

The entrance exam for grade 10 public schools in Hanoi always receives special attention from the whole society, and this year is no exception. According to the leader of the Department of Education and Training, one of the reasons why this exam is always "hot" is because Hanoi often faces a shortage of public schools. The rapid urbanization while the land fund for education is limited has created great pressure on the school system.

With only 64% of candidates expected to be admitted to public high schools, the competition is very high. This requires students to put in their best efforts to achieve the best results.

To consider admission to grade 10, Hanoi applies a clear scoring formula:

Admission score = Math score + Literature score + Foreign language score + Priority score (if any) + Encouragement score (if any)

All subjects are graded on a 10-point scale, without coefficients. Priority and incentive points will be added to this total score.

Regarding priority points: Hanoi Department of Education and Training stipulates priority points from 1 to 2 points, depending on the specific subject:

Add 2 points for the following subjects: Children of martyrs; children of war invalids/sick soldiers with a loss of working capacity of 81% or more; children of people granted "Certificate of enjoying policies like war invalids" with a loss of working capacity of 81% or more; children of resistance fighters infected with toxic chemicals.

Add 1.5 points for the following subjects: Children of armed forces heroes, labor heroes, Vietnamese heroic mothers; children of war invalids/sick soldiers with less than 81% working capacity loss; children of people granted "Certificate of enjoying policies like war invalids" with less than 81% working capacity loss.

Add 1 point for the following subjects: Father or mother is an ethnic minority; ethnic minority students; students in areas with especially difficult socio -economic conditions.

It is important to note that students will only receive the highest priority points if multiple criteria apply.

Regarding incentive points: in addition to priority points, candidates also have the opportunity to receive additional incentive points from 0.5 to 1.5 points if they win provincial-level prizes organized or jointly organized by the Department of Education and Training for provincial-level competitions in culture, arts, sports, or scientific and technical research competitions.

Admission principles and requirements

The basic admission principle is to consider admission from high to low until the quota is met. Candidates who are admitted to the first choice will not be considered for the following choices. In particular, the admission scores for the second and third choices must be 1 and 2 points higher than the first choice, respectively. When the admission score is lowered, public high schools are allowed to admit students with the second and third choices who meet the admission requirements.

Time frames candidates need to note after knowing their scores

According to the plan, from July 7 to 9, schools will return application documents and admission exam results for grade 10 for the 2025-2026 school year to students.

Before July 10, schools will receive appeal applications, submit appeal applications and lists of students to the Department of Education and Training.

From July 10 to 12, high schools, vocational education - continuing education centers, and vocational education institutions will organize admission confirmation.

No later than July 17, the Department of Education and Training and specialized high schools and public high schools will meet to approve additional benchmark scores for public grade 10 (if any).

From July 19 to 22, schools will organize admission confirmation and receive additional admission applications (if any).
