In the context of the global economy facing many uncertainties and challenges, the domestic socio-economic situation in the first 6 months of the year recorded positive results and created an impressive bright spot in the region.
According to data just released by the General Statistics Office on July 5, the gross domestic product (GDP) is estimated to increase by 7.52% over the same period last year, establishing the highest growth rate in the first half of the year during the 15-year period from 2011 to 2025.
Overcoming "headwinds"
The international situation in the first half of the year is assessed to continue to be complicated and unpredictable. Risk factors still exist, creating significant challenges for all economies, including Vietnam.
At the press conference, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Director of the General Statistics Office, said that in the first half of the year, the world situation continued to be complicated, unpredictable and unpredictable, especially the US policy as well as the reactions of other countries. In addition, geopolitical instability and widespread military conflicts in many countries increased. Meanwhile, tariff tensions between the US and other countries continue to disrupt supply chains, and the risk of trade wars had a negative impact on global economic growth.
In addition, Ms. Huong emphasizes other challenges that are increasing, such as natural disasters and climate change causing serious consequences. Challenges to ensure energy security, food security, and cyber security. Or, Global inflation remains high compared to the targets of Central Banks, causing tighter financial market conditions and a downward trend in world economic growth.

This reality has been reflected in a series of forecasts from prestigious international organizations. Many organizations have had to adjust down their forecasts for global economic growth in 2025 compared to previous assessments. specifically, the World Bank (WB) forecasts that the growth of economies in the region will slow down. specifically, the Philippines will reach 5.3% (down 0.4 percentage points), Indonesia will reach 4.7% (down 0.3 percentage points), and Thailand will reach 1.8% (down 0.7 percentage points). The World Bank also forecasts Vietnam's growth at 5.8%, 1.3 percentage points lower than in 2024. Meanwhile, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) also made similar forecasts: the Philippines at 5.5% (down 0.2 percentage points), Indonesia at 4.7% (down 0.3 percentage points), Thailand at 1.8% (down 0.7 percentage points), Malaysia at 4.1% (down 1 percentage points) and Vietnam is forecast at 5.4%, 1.7 percentage points lower than last year. Similarly, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) also revised down its forecast for Vietnam to 6.2% (0.9 percentage points lower than in 2024), along with the Philippines at 5.6% and Thailand at 2.0%.
In that general picture, Vietnam's 7.52% growth result is a bright spot and shows the economy's enduring resilience.
Create a strong breakthrough momentum
According to the General Statistics Office, the outstanding growth of the second quarter contributed significantly to the overall success of the first six months. specifically, the gross domestic product (GDP) in the second quarter is estimated to increase by 7.96% over the same period last year, just below the record growth of 8.56% in the first quarter of 2022. This result is a very impressive figure compared to other years in the 2020-2025 period (2020: 0.34%; 2021: 6.55%; 2023: 4.34%; 2024: 7.25%).
Looking deeply into the growth momentum in the first 6 months of the year, the growth figure of 7.52% is the highest in the 15-year data series (2011-2025), surpassing even the years of good growth before the pandemic such as 2018 (7.43%) and 2019 (7.12%). Analyzing the contribution of sectors to the total added value growth of the entire economy, we can see even and steady growth. In particular, the service sector continues to affirm its leading role with an increase of 8.14%, contributing the largest amount of 52.21%. The industrial and construction sector is a solid support with an increase of 8.33%, contributing 42.2%. The agriculture, forestry and fishery sector maintains stability with an increase of 3.84%, contributing 5.59% and is a safe support for the economy.

Regarding GDP use, aggregate demand factors all grew strongly. Final consumption increased by 7.95% over the same period, contributing 84.2% to the overall growth rate, showing that the momentum from the domestic market is very large. dynamic, asset accumulation increased by 7.98%, contributing 40.18%, demonstrating the investment confidence of businesses and society. In addition, trade activities were also very vibrant with exports of goods and services increasing by 14.17% and imports increasing by 16.01%.
Explaining this impressive growth, Ms. Huong said the key factor comes from the drastic and synchronous direction and management of the entire political system.
“Domestically, with the highest determination to mobilize and unleash all resources for socio-economic development, in a short time, the entire political system has focused on completing a huge amount of work,” Ms. Huong said.
These efforts are demonstrated through a series of specific and groundbreaking actions. promoting, implementing the revolution in the organization of the Government apparatus. Reorganizing administrative units at all levels and building a two-level local government organization. Focusing on amending, supplementing, and synchronously perfecting relevant legal regulations, regulations on decentralization, delegation of power, and division of authority. Resolutely implementing major Central Resolutions on science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation, international integration, innovation in law making and enforcement, and private economic development.
"Along with closely monitoring the fluctuations of the world and domestic economic situation, ministries, branches and localities have made efforts to implement tasks and solutions to achieve the set goals. As a result, our country's socio-economic situation in the second quarter and the first six months of 2025 achieved very positive results, approaching the set goals," said Ms. Huong./.
