According to the June report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the coffee growing area in Vietnam increased by 14,200 hectares, equivalent to an increase of 2% compared to the same period last year. Currently, the total coffee growing area in the country is about 735,200 hectares. The main reason is that the coffee price has increased sharply in recent times, causing people to promote replanting and expand the growing area to take advantage of the high price period.
Not only Vietnam, the trend of expanding coffee acreage is also taking place in South American countries, where there is an advantage of large land. The increase in coffee prices has become a common driving force to promote investment in production in many major exporting countries.
At a coffee conference organized by the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Association (Cecafe), the Director General of the International Coffee Organization (ICO), Ms. Vanusia Nogueira, predicted that global coffee production will likely explode in the next three years. This comment was made in the context that many countries are simultaneously increasing new planting areas to meet market demand.
World coffee prices today
Coffee prices on the world market fluctuate on two exchanges:
Robusta Coffee (London):
Delivery September 2025: Up 50 USD/ton, to 3,677 USD/ton.
November 2025 delivery: Up $46/ton to $3,615/ton.
Arabica Coffee (New York):
September 2025 delivery: Down 1.6 cents/lb, to 289.6 cents/lb.
December 2025 delivery: Down 1.2 cents/lb, to 284.15 cents/lb.
In an interview with Reuters at the Coffee Dinner & Summit in Campinas, Brazil, Bahamon said heavy rains are severely affecting coffee production in Colombia. He predicted that the harvest in October, November and December will be sharply reduced due to adverse weather conditions, with cuts of up to 1 million to 1.5 million bags. This is a major challenge for the Colombian coffee industry, which is expected to reach around 15 million bags in the 2024-2025 crop year.
Colombia is the world’s third-largest coffee producer, behind Brazil and Vietnam. But the global coffee market has come under severe downward pressure this year. Robusta prices have fallen about 26% since late 2024, erasing much of last year’s strong gains.
According to Commerzbank, the main reason for this sharp drop in coffee prices is the expectation of increased supply. In Brazil, the harvest is taking place on a large scale, causing more supply to enter the market, putting pressure on prices.
