Winning 28/32 individual and team gold medals in standard chess, the Vietnamese team has no opponents at the 2025 Southeast Asian Age Group Chess Championship taking place in Malaysia.
Taking place from July 1 to 11 in Penang, Malaysia, the 2025 Southeast Asian Age Group Chess Championship is hosted by the Penang Chess Association under the auspices of the Southeast Asian Chess Federation and the Malaysian Chess Federation. Of more than 300 players from 18 countries and territories, Vietnam sent the largest contingent with 143 players, competing in all three categories: standard chess, rapid chess, and blitz chess according to the competition tables of 16 age groups for men and women.

The standard chess competition took place from July 2 to 8. The Vietnamese team won overwhelmingly in 15/16 team events and 13/16 individual age groups, bringing home a total of 28 gold medals.
The most prominent of these are names that are very familiar to the regional chess community, such as Nguyen Minh Chi (U14 women), Nguyen Ha Thi Hai (U16 men), Dang Le Xuan Hien (U16 women), Dang Anh Minh (U18 men), Nguyen Binh Vy (U18 women), Nguyen Quoc Hy (U20 men)...
On July 9 and 10, the players continued to compete in rapid chess and blitz chess.
