Coffee exports continue to be a bright spot in Vietnam's economy in the first half of 2025. In June alone, Vietnam exported 130,000 tons of coffee, earning 741.1 million USD.
In the first 6 months of the year, exports reached nearly 954 thousand tons with a record turnover of 5.45 billion USD, up 5.3% in volume and 67.5% in value compared to the same period last year. According to the forecast from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), in the 2025-2026 crop year, Vietnam is expected to produce about 31 million 60kg bags of coffee.
The USDA said Vietnam’s output increase was mainly due to robusta coffee. Robusta output is forecast to reach a record 24.1 million bags, up 15% from the previous crop year thanks to favorable weather in key growing regions.
Previously, farmers converting coffee land to durian and pepper trees caused coffee production to decline. However, as coffee prices have increased again while durian and pepper prices have cooled down, some areas are returning to growing coffee as a staple crop.
World coffee prices today
Coffee prices on the world market fell sharply on two exchanges:
Robusta Coffee (London):
Delivery September 2025: Down 131 USD/ton, to 3,437 USD/ton.
November 2025 delivery: Down 130 USD/ton, to 3,378 USD/ton.
Arabica Coffee (New York):
September 2025 delivery: Down 1.7 cents/lb, to 283.9 cents/lb.
December 2025 delivery: Down 1.85 cents/lb, to 278.6 cents/lb.
Brazil's Cooxupe cooperative, the country's largest coffee exporter, said its farmers have harvested 40.4% of their expected 2025–26 crop. That's up 9 percentage points from last week, but still significantly below the 51.6% seen a year ago.
Brazil is a major player in the global coffee market, accounting for about 30% of all coffee traded. To expand production, the country is stepping up plantings. Louis Dreyfus Co. predicts that expanding plantings and improving yields could add 23 million bags of coffee to Brazil’s output over the next 10 years. Last year, the country exported more than 46 million bags.
Data from consultancy StoneX shows that Brazil will plant an additional 300 million robusta seedlings by 2025. Although it will take about three years to harvest, this is expected to add about 2 million bags of coffee, making a significant contribution to future supply.
The expansion in Brazil is a positive sign at a time when many other coffee-producing countries are suffering from frost and drought. The increased output will not only help stabilize the market but also reduce pressure on prices, which have remained high despite recent downward adjustments.
