Colombia's coffee production in the 2025-2026 crop year is expected to fall by at least 1 million bags due to excessive rains that affect the harvest from October to December, said German Bahamon, president of the National Coffee Federation of Colombia (FNC).
Colombia, the world's third-largest coffee producer, is expected to produce around 15 million bags in the 2024-25 crop year.
Robusta coffee prices have fallen about 26% since late last year, largely due to expectations of increased supply as the harvest in Brazil, the world's largest coffee producer, gets underway, according to Commerzbank.
Global supplies could improve over the next three years as plantation expansion and record high prices stimulate production, said Vanusia Nogueira, director general of the International Coffee Organization (ICO).
Brazil is seeing rapid growth in robusta coffee, which is drought-resistant and cheaper to produce than arabica, with output expected to hit a record 24.1 million bags this year, up 3.1 million bags from last year. Arabica output is expected to fall to 40.9 million bags.
David Neumann, director of Neumann Kaffee Gruppe, said the size of Brazil's next crop was uncertain due to the extended cold season, and that the drop in Arabica coffee prices from a record of more than $4 per pound to around $3 now would benefit farmers and the general market.
