Blood red jellyfish

Lao Dong newspaper quoted Live Science as saying that researchers from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) discovered the new jellyfish species along with several other previously unknown creatures during a 2021 North Atlantic expedition. The expedition lasted from June 30 to July 29.

The newly identified jellyfish belongs to the genus Poralia - which includes jellyfish with bell-shaped heads, up to 30 tentacles and are among the most fragile creatures.

Glass Octopus

Also in August, researchers from the Schmidt Ocean Institute (SOI) released footage of a glass octopus (Vitreledonella richardi) off the remote Phoenix Islands, 5,100 km northeast of the Australian city of Sydney.

Like other glass creatures, such as glass frogs and comb jellies, the glass octopus is almost completely transparent, with only its eyes, optic nerves, and digestive tract visible.

Viperfish - The scary fish with transparent eyes

Viperfish is a fish found at a depth of about 4,500 meters. This creature scares many people with its large transparent eyes, long sharp teeth and fierce face... They are considered one of the most terrifying creatures at the bottom of the ocean.

The viperfish has a flashing, glowing belly that attracts curious prey. They are considered fierce predators with long, sharp, hooked teeth and a large, scary mouth.

"Faceless" fish

The cusk-eel, scientifically known as Typhlonus nasus, is a member of the mouray eel family. It was discovered by Australian researchers during an expedition off the country’s east coast in May 2017.

What surprises many people is that this fish has a strange shape, no face, although it has a nose and a mouth. Therefore, many people call them faceless fish or faceless fish.

The strange thing is that even their eyes and mouths are deep down, very difficult to see. Faceless fish usually live at a depth of more than 4,000 meters below the sea floor.

"Sea cucumber" monster

Sea cucumbers are mysterious creatures, discovered in 2007. They have magically translucent skin, so much so that their internal organs are clearly visible on the outside.

You can observe the entire digestive process as well as the internal movements of the sea cucumber because of its unusual appearance and structure.

These creatures live at depths of 2,500 meters in the Celebes Sea, between the Philippines and Indonesia. Some sea cucumbers, also known as sea cucumbers, even contain deadly venom.

Alien Squid

NOAA scientists discovered a rare bigfin squid (genus Mangapinna) during a deep-sea expedition in the Gulf of Mexico in November.

The ghost squid has a very strange body with huge, iridescent fins and tentacles that bend like elbows.

To date, there have been fewer than 20 confirmed sightings of this squid since it was first discovered in 1998.
