Strangely, the striker who scored 36 goals in 6 years is worth 94 million USD

Late on August 29, the world of football was surprised when Newcastle activated the transfer "blockbuster" named Nick Woltemade with a fee of up to 80 million euros (94 million USD).

So who is Nick Woltemade?

Many English football fans have heard the name of this German striker for the first time.

The 23-year-old striker played for Stuttgart last season, impressing with his tall physique, standing at 1m98. He also played quite well last season, scoring 17 goals in 33 appearances for the German team.

But that's all. Despite playing professionally for six years, Woltemade has left little else to show for it.

This tall striker grew up in the famous Werder Bremen training academy. But after 4 seasons being given the opportunity to play in the first team, Woltemade only scored 2 goals in 51 matches.

In the 2024-2025 season, he was loaned to the Third Division club Elversberg. In this lower league, he scored a total of 17 goals. But that was not enough for Werder Bremen to be determined to keep him.

In the summer of 2025, Woltemade transferred to Stuttgart on a free transfer, before suddenly shining. Thanks to his impressive form, the 23-year-old striker was called up to the German national team and has made 2 appearances.

However, this tall striker has yet to score a goal for the national team. Throughout his career, he has only scored 36 goals in 6 years of professional football, and nearly half of them were scored in the Third Division.

The football world was therefore completely surprised when Newcastle approved spending 80 million euros for this striker. The deal is almost complete, and Woltemade will soon have a medical examination in England in the next few days.

Specifically, Newcastle will pay Stuttgart 75 million euros in advance, and 5 million euros in additional fees that may arise based on future performance.

By buying Woltemade, Newcastle are likely to let Isak leave before the transfer window closes. Liverpool have now placed a €130m price tag on the Swedish striker.

Because of the pressure of losing Isak, the "Magpies" tried their best to buy the striker in the last days of the summer transfer market. That is probably also the reason why they accepted to lower the price for an unremarkable striker.

According to Transfermarkt's current valuation, Woltemade is only worth 30 million euros, less than half of the fee Newcastle had to pay.
