At noon on August 29 (Vietnam time), Coach Mourinho officially left the head coach position of Fenerbahce Club after more than 12 months of accepting to lead the Turkish team. The decision to fire was made right after Fenerbahce lost to Benfica in the Champions League play-off round.

This information caused a big surprise in the football world, because before that, the Portuguese strategist was expected to revive the giant of Turkish football.

However, the inability to help the home team qualify for the Champions League group stage was considered the "last straw". And it led to the Fenerbahce board of directors deciding to part ways with Mourinho.

"Jose Mourinho, who will be our professional first-team coach from the 2024-25 season, has officially left the club.

We would like to thank him for his contributions to the team in the past and wish him much success in the next stage of his career," Fenerbahce Club briefly announced on social media.

Before coming to Türkiye, the "Special One" left a deep mark at AS Roma in Serie A. He helped the team win their first European title in 61 years, with the Europa Conference League championship in 2022.

However, the joy did not last long, when in the next season his AS Roma lost to Sevilla in the Europa League final after a regretful penalty shootout.

After taking over as Fenerbahce manager in 2024, Jose Mourinho led the team to a runner-up finish in the Turkish Super League (behind champions Galatasaray). However, his journey in Türkiye was not really complete, as Fenerbahce were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Turkish Cup and lost to Rangers in the round of 16 of the Europa League.

Mourinho's coaching career spanning more than two decades is marked by 26 major and minor titles.

He won the Champions League with Porto and Inter Milan. He also won the Premier League and La Liga with Chelsea and Real Madrid.
