On the morning of August 29, the men's singles quarter-final, where only Vietnamese player Phuc Huynh competed, ended without any surprises. Phuc Huynh easily entered the semi-finals after winning 2-0 against Lucas Pascoe.
Lucas Pascoe, 18, from Australia, was no match for the second seed from Vietnam. The difference was evident in two games with the same score of 11-3 in favor of Phuc Huynh.
Pascoe deserves credit for finishing 5th in the men's singles with 4,900 points at PPA Australia. Despite being quite young, Pascoe has already competed in PPA and MLP Australia and has a lot of experience.
However, Phuc Huynh showed his finishing skills with a powerful, deep, curling backhand return close to the net. Against Pascoe, Phuc Huynh easily hit down the line to score a light point.
Meanwhile, Jack Wong also defeated Nasa Hatakeyama 2-0 (11-7, 11-6) to enter the semi-finals to meet Phuc Huynh. It took Jack Wong 5 game points in the first game to defeat Nasa, a tough player.
A clash that Vietnamese pickleball fans have been waiting for between Jack and Phuc Huynh. The two have met many times in men's doubles and mixed doubles in major tournaments in Vietnam.
Although they have won and lost in doubles, Jack Wong and Phuc Huynh are not familiar with each other in singles. The match will be evenly matched as Phuc Huynh is no less formidable than Trinh Linh Giang.
If Jack Wong wins against Phuc Huynh and before that Trinh Linh Giang, he probably has no more opponents in Vietnam. The person Jack fears the most might be Quang Duong.
On the contrary, if Phuc Huynh defeats Jack, Vietnamese pickleball will be happy to have a player in the final of PPA Asia - Fukuoka Open 2025, like the previous 2 series in Malaysia and Hong Kong.
The match between Phuc Huynh and Jack Wong will be broadcast live onFPT Play at 8:00 (GMT+8) on August 30.
