After the success of the U23 Southeast Asian Championship, U23 Vietnam continues its journey to conquer the qualifying round of the U23 Asia 2026. This is one of two important tournaments for the Vietnamese youth team this year, besides the 33rd SEA Games at the end of the year.

According to the draw results, U23 Vietnam will be in the same group with U23 Yemen, U23 Bangladesh and U23 Singapore in Group C. These matches will take place at Viet Tri Stadium ( Phu Tho ). We will open the tournament with a match against U23 Bangladesh at 7pm on September 3. Next, coach Kim Sang Sik's team will welcome U23 Singapore at 7pm on September 6 and meet U23 Yemen at 7pm on September 9.
This tournament is broadcast live onFPT Play platforms or free-to-air channels such as VTV5. In addition, Dan Tri newspaper also broadcasts live matches involving the Vietnam U23 team.
Like the U23 Southeast Asian tournament, the U23 Vietnam team will be led by coach Kim Sang Sik. He will keep most of the pillars who participated in the tournament in July. He only removed one player, Thanh Dat, and added a Vietnamese-Bulgarian player, Chung Nguyen Do (Vietnamese name: Tran Thanh Trung).

Notably, only the group winners and the four best second-placed teams will qualify for the final round of the U23 Asian Cup. Therefore, U23 Vietnam needs to play very carefully in each match. We have no chance to correct our mistakes when the teams only play one round.
Coach Kim Sang Sik's team hopes that the advantage of playing at home in Viet Tri will become a fulcrum to help the team participate in the Asian-level tournament.
At the 2024 AFC U23 Championship, Vietnam U23 easily qualified (with the participation of Yemen, Singapore, Guam). After that, we won the right to enter the quarter-finals of the tournament and only lost 0-1 to Iraq.
